Behind this gold picket fence
Lies a whole institute
Where wallpaper painters scrape
And scarecrows swell waterlogged,
Now I got dead time on my hands
For feeding my animals,

All of this time on my hands
So far has gone to feeding my animals

On this dark kissed day
The light shines through only you
Or is it because your silhouette is your frame Like an empty window,
Now I got cold time up my sleeve,
I'm feeling destitute,

All of this time on my hands
So far has gone to feeding my animals

I feel root vegetable!
Am I dead?
Or buried alive?
I sleep warm velvet wand,
Buy the night,
I'm selling the sun,
My skin feels silky smooth
Now I'm buried in mud

All of this time on my hands
So far has gone to feeding my animals,
All of that time I was dead,
Limbless in bed, sedated experiment

Na, na, na, na

Seems to be about his arthritis, how he couldn't get out of bed for long stretches of time.

"All of this time I was dead, limbless in bed"

I believe this song is about Daniel's arthritis. He repeats that he's got "all of this time" on his hands, that's probably because he couldn't really do anything for a long period of time, so he had a lot of time to kill.

It may be a little far-fetched, I don't know, but I think that maybe the line "Where wallpaper painters scrape and scarecrows swell waterlogged" refers to his joints, because the scraping is the pain he feels in his joints, like someone is actually scraping his bones. And the "swell waterlogged" part may symbolise his joints swelling up.

I think the part "On this dark kissed day the light shines through only you, Or is it because your silhouette is your frame like an empty window" means that the only way in which Daniel saw light was the sun shining through his window, because he remained inside his home a lot, because he was unable to go out and do stuff, so he's kind of trapped in his home.

At the end, "All of that time I was dead, Limbless in bed, sedated experiment", probably refers to not being able to do anything as well. There were a lot of days Daniel couldn't even get out of bed because of the severity of his arthritis. And "sedated experiment" refers to all the pills he had to take against the pain. His doctors didn't know how to treat him, so he got lots of pills to try to ease the pain.

The rest of the lyrics I think you can figure out by yourself. I have done my share by writing such a long explanation :) By the way, awesome song!

No one has commented on this song!! It's totally different from anything I've heard before. I love it. Not sure what the lyrics are all about. Maybe a little bit about Daniel's illness?

I like this song and the barrel one but I wish I never bought this cd. It was a waste of money. :(

Really great song. :) For me, the lyrics represent the description of an animal vivisection laboratory ('whole institute') and the feelings of who is in there, both human ('wallpaper painters scrape') and animal ('scarecrows swell waterlogged').

Feeding the animals is a term that I believe shows how animal testers feed what they are just going to destroy and the positive imagery puts a juxtaposition to the true meaning of the song. The second verse desribes the tester as empty and dark (silhouette, empty window) and of course destitute.

'I feel root vegetable! Am I dead? Or buried alive? I sleep warm velvet wand, Buy the night…I’m selling the sun, my skin feels Silky smooth now I’m buried in mud'

    and

'All of that time I was dead, Limbless in bed, sedated experiment'

...describes the helpless feelings and status of the unfortunate subjects. There we go. If it means what I believe it to, the lyrical protest to the subject of animal abuse in Daniel's song is again very effective, as it is in other songs of his such as spawn again and arguably Angry Megaphone Man amongst others. Brilliant.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
