It is so that my transgressions have born a withered fruit, the sun has scorched the rising plans; alas they have no root, the bleached bones of animals bound by leather strips, dance through the air with laughter as I wield this wicked whip, as you did warn me carpenter, this world has weakened my heart, so easily I disparage, self-seeking the work of my art, and there you have come to me at the moment I bathe in my sorrow, so in love with myself, sought after avoiding tomorrow, where do you find the love to offer he who betrays you? and offer to wash my feet as I offer to disobey you, your beauty does bereave me, and how my words do fail, so faithfully and dutifully I award you with betrayal, the weak and the down trodden fall on broken legs, as I walk past a smile I cast, fervor in my stead, but my bones like plastic, do buckle backward now, I lay in this field by Judas' bowels and anticipate the plow, I can not be forgiven; my wages will be paid, for those more lovely and admirable is least among the saved, and where would I fit Jesus? what place is left for me? the price of atonement is more than I've found to offer up as my plea, Jesus my heart is all I have to give to you, so weak and so unworthy, this simply will not do, no alabaster jar, no diamond in the rough, for your body that was broken, how can this be enough? by me you were abandoned, by me you were betrayed, yet in your arms and in your heart forever I have stayed

Your glory illuminates my life, and no darkness will descend, for you have loved me forever, and your love will never end

Wow.. I'm a strong athiest and despite my beliefs on religion, I think this has to be one of the most incredible songs ever written.. I could go on and on about how great it is, but if you're reading this post I'm sure you already realize it. I cannot comprehend how a band like Showbread is relatively unpopular despite how talented they are, while *insert MTV band name here* gets all the fame for being typical... It just floors me these guys don't get the credit they truly deserve, they are amazing artists and I'm just thankful I have been able to experience them in my home and as well at live performances.

you're definitely right, g.zus. mtv culture has indoctrinated what is cool and what is popular. just because a band gets on mtv doesnt mean they are talented. they just look like they are. showbread could kill the hives over and over, and yes they are passionate about God. I admire their faith a lot. It's what influences me to be the antithesis in the world. and not just another blank face in the crowd. simply put, Christians are suppose to set the standards in the world. Just look at Jesus. He made all of society and culture bend around him. He influenced like no other because people are still preaching his life today. Showbread is an example of setting the standards. They are like no other.

I can not believe how amazing this band is. This song blew me away when I first heard it, and I can't stop listening to it. This song talks about how we Take Jesus and his death for granted. The end is the best when he finally realizes how much he needs and loves God. This band are total God chasers, and they helped me with my own selfesh desisires, I can't wait for another amazing album. Keep screaming for Christ Showbread!!!

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.
