Sheriff Fatman Lyrics
Sherrif Fatman started out is business as a granny farmer
He ws infamous for fifteen minutes
And he appeared on Panorama
Then he somehow got on board a Starship Enterprise Allowance Scheme
With a Prince of Wales Award
For pushing valium and amphetamines
Moving Up on Second Base
With Nicholas Van Whats His Face
At six foot six
And 100 Tons
The undisputed King of the Slums
With more alias' than Klaus Barbie
Master Butcher of Leigh on Sea
Just about to take the stage
The one and only - hold the front page
Fatman's got something to sell
To the Capital's homeless
A Crossroad's Motel
For the No Fixed Abodeless
Where you can live life in style
If you sleep in a closet
And if you flash him a smile
He'll take your teeth as deposit
There's bats in the belfrey
The windows are jammed
The toilet's ain't healthy
He don't give a damn
Just chuckles and smiles
Laughs like a madman
A born again Rachman
Here comes Sherrif Fatman
With his valium, amphetamines
Sicknotes and his phoney prescriptions
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the kitchen
Dead heads and cracked heads
Bunk beds and breakfasts
Wake up you sleepyheads
Check this
Moving up on second base
with Nicholas Van Whatshis face
At six foot six
And 100 tons
The undisputed King of the Slums
With more alias' than Klaus Barbie
The Master Butcher of Leigh on Sea
Just about to take the stage
The only and only hold the front page
He ws infamous for fifteen minutes
And he appeared on Panorama
Then he somehow got on board a Starship Enterprise Allowance Scheme
With a Prince of Wales Award
For pushing valium and amphetamines

The song is about slum landlords and the threatening/violent ways used. Nicholas Van Wotsisface is Nicholas van Hoogstraten a slum landlord who was later imprisoned for manslaughter
"a born again Rachman" Rachmanism: 'Landlords buying up slums to fill with immigrants at extortionate rents; named after Peter Rachman, a notorious racketeering landlord in Notting Hill in the 1950s and 1960s'. (Taken from the english dictionary)
More aliases than Klaus Barbie
Nazi war criminal and head of Gestapo in Lyon, France during the war. Escaped to South America in 1945 with the help of American OSS (fore-runner of CIA) who created several fake identities for him in order to evade capture. Repatriated to France in 1983 to stand trial.
He colluded with the OSS to finger other Nazis such as Josef Mengele and Adolf Eichmann
What does it mean- other than what is mentioned correctly by the people above?
I read in NME at the time it was about one of their landlords...

Words cannot describe the shock. I AM THE FIRST PERSON TO COMMENT ON ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME???
This song is brilliant. It defines punk. I am dissapointed with everyone who hasn't commented on this yet. And who's that? Everyone but me!!
There's bats in the belfrey The windows are jammed The toilet's ain't healthy He don't give a damn
This is a great tune, and it should get more due. Most young people when this came out are 30 something now (haha). Love this band.
i agree with wallamanage this song is awesome. Don't have a clue what it means but i guess i have my ideas. My generation should be introduced to Carter! Very few 15-16 year olds know these guys!
Superb song - as a 30 something it brings back memories of seeing the USM live - here's to the excellent Jimbob and Fruitbat
