Time Can Never Kill the True Heart

First of all, the harmony is beautiful and well blended with the violins and voices!

This song is about two people in a relationship, one of which is more dedicated, involved, devoted, than the other ("You won't say 'love' but I might"). Ironically after they make love, it's done for the unsure one.

"One heart out of two" can either be taken extremely romantically, or not at all. Ex- two hearts coming together to form one in a pure wholistic loving relationship. OR only one out of the two hearts is "in" the relationship.

correct me if i'm wrong, but is this song about unrequited love? it seems to me that the relationship means more to the guy than the girl.

yeah, lines like "You won't say "love" but I might" and "Made love and you muttered "we're through"" pretty much give that away, even if the chorus wasn't "one heart out of two". it's such a good song and has such beautiful music that they could be singing about anything and i'd still love it. but the croon of "one heart out of two" gets me every time, as does the last verse. oh man i love this song too much :(

"I hope I die in the arms of a child In a meadow where the thistles grow wild"

Any thoughts on what this line means? The rest of it works so well, and then this. Is it some obscure reference to religion or mythology that I just don't get?

This seems like a divorce t ome. "One life: me and you" I interpreted that as the marriage binding them together. But all along the girl has always loved the guy more "you won't say love but I might", and finally it's ending. "..you muttered 'we're through"

What's the actual "sea wall" referring to?

I think it's about young love. Whether it be male or female (I prefer it more as the female singing this), they begin dating. The sea wall, I think, is just a metaphor for how it is in the beginning. "Hold my hand so you don't fall".

They begin to get serious and she lets him take her home. The lines, "We'll touch 'til it feels right You won't say "love" but I might" simply tell that they have sex for the first time and she already has a feeling that he doesn't love her as much as she does, hence why she says she might say it, but he won't.

The end, really, is the break up. He has her for sex and then he leaves her. There's still one heart, both of theirs but two different thoughts. One, of the innocent who was heart broken, and the other who hurt them.

I also think the meadow is again, just a nice metaphor to end the song. It started with the sea, and ended in a meadow. "I hope I die in the arms of a child In a meadow where the thistles grow wild" I don't think it's any reference to some sort of religion or anything. I think it's kind of, a more beautiful way to say, "I just wish I could die". Obviously it's got to hurt.

to me this song tells a story of a young couple who have found a more mature love then the rest of the people their age.

"one heart out of two. one life, me and you."

i think that line is about the female in the relationship being pregnant. two hearts together formed one and she dreams of the three of them being a family but realizes that the her male counterpart and seems distant.

"take me home with you tonight. we'll touch til it feels right. you won't say 'love' but i might." they'll touch until she feels like she's brought him back to loving her and after their done she realizes that she is still unsure of what he is feeling and thinking. and then they make love for the last time and he tells her that they are done.

"one heart but the mind was in two. one half filled with the dreams of a saint, the other filled with nothing but hate."

one heart growing inside her but they both have seperate minds and plans for their future and when it comes to the baby. she dreams of the two of them coming together to raise their child and he resents her for being pregnant and ultimate leaves her. so i think the last chorus instead of the "one life, me and you" part being directed to the lovers it is now directed towards her and her child.
