The Leavers Dance Lyrics

Berenice,
My hands, my feet are worn
As much as yours are
And though my head, my hands, my heart are forming
They still feel worlds apart

Berenice,
Beneath it all you're golden
That's all I'm feeding on
And though my head, my hands are growing colder
We move in circles now

And Berenice, there's no release at all
It's not worth dying for

Berenice, my hands, my feet are worn
As much as yours are

Berenice, there's no release at all
It's not worth dying for
It's not for our desires but our design
That we all fall apart
ye-eah

Berenice, there's no release at all
It's worthless crying for
And on my knees, and on my knees I'm now
'Cuz we all fall down

fanastic song fantastic band. i know berenice from the poe story makes sense, but the first time i listened to this song i immediately of a pregnant woman named berenice, whose baby is talking to her...And though my head my hands my heart are forming They still feel worlds apart like a baby talking abt its growth coming along but still feeling awkward Beneath itall you're golden And that's all I'm feeding on the baby says its mother is golden beneath it all and its feeding on this... And it's not for our desires but our desiqn taht we all fall apart

eventually the mother and child must separate in being...i dunno, i felt like this interpretion just made the song so much more beautiful to me. But all in all just a terrific song

Does anyone know how it ends? It goes something like " we all fall down" but I can't understand the preceding bit. Gorgeous song though :)

I have read the horror story from Poe, and honestly, I don't think that it gives such a good explanation of the meaning of this wonderful song. And though I love leelee87interpretation I think this song is inspired by Jean Racine's drama going by the name... Berenice. Long story short, at the end Berenice and Antiochus leave Rome, very sad, wanting to die, but living to remember their sadness :

Berenice there's no release at all That's not worth dying for And it's not for our desires but our desiqn taht we all fall apart

i heard this for the first ever time last summer when we were driving through glen coe in scotland in the sunset. it's just an amazing song and everyone should get a chance to hear it. as we drove straight into the sun he sang: 'beneath it all you're golden, and thats all I'm feeding on'. i very nearly cried it was SO beautiful.
