Truly, Truly, This Is The End Lyrics

They say death’s an open door
Into another room
Within the city of the dead
(Our New Kingdom)

They say we walk like dreams
Sharing the same breath
Seeing through the same eyes
(A collective spirit)

As we pray (As we pray)
On his grave (On his grave)
Or words fall and decay (And decay)

They say the Earth it gives no peace
Nor does it take away
We all survive the grave
(Unfortunate eternal)

They say that in times past
A king walked in the sky
Until dethroned by man
(Tribe of Judas)

As we pray (As we pray)
On his grave (On his grave)
Or words fall and decay (And decay)

Truly, truly, this is the end
Truly, truly, this is the end

It's not the same
I'm plagued with pain and I can't let go

It's not the same
I'm plagued with pain and I can't let go

This is the end

this song is clearly what it is to live on earth without God (it's relevant for the story the cd tries to tell). in this song, God is long since dead and apparently something happened which his help was needed, but he is no longer alive to help. it therefore, is the end of the world as we know it. or! it could be how a man seeking rest from his pain tries to turn to a god that no longer exists or both O_o

i think that what the first part is saying, is that there is a man, talking from within the city of the dead, saying that they've been taught that death is another part of life, and that your dead spirit lives alongside your living one. i think this man along with others are trying in vain to worship a new god, but their words "fall and decay". upon realizing this, they realize that their attempts are futile, and that this really is the end of all the things that were good and pure.

This song can actually be taken alongside biblical doctrine. Because this will actually happen when God detaches himself from humanity at the end of the world. This could also tie into the whole tribulation era, where people knowing of a God that once existed was only something in the past. in other words, instead of just leaving the songs as a form of study material, put work to your faith, if you're a Christian and show people that God hasn't left them, and he won't leave them if they accept him. :D

The first time I heard this song I about wet myself from its greatness. It's almost ironic that this is on their last album. I'm going to agree with Graves though.

I just realized that this is the first time that the term "City of the Dead" is used on the album. Perhaps Dan means earth by that?

I believe waketolife is correct, in this song it talks about "our new kingdom" and in "praise the war machine" it talks about rebuilding the earth so that none shall inhabit it. In other words, man destroys himself, and in the afterlife, there is no God, the kingdom of the dead. Man walks about the earth sharing it with everyone realizing what he has done and people pray in vain due to there being nothing coming of it, God has left us and everyone realizes it truly is the end. Its the opposite of what we are promised, a perfect world after life, but because God left there is nothing left, no where to go, nothing to do, no God, its simply the end.

Truly amazing cd. It makes you sit down and think about what it would be like without God, and then sit down and thank God that he is here and thank yourself for what you have, what you are given, what could be and realize God really could do whatever he wanted and he loves us and wouldn't do this to us. Just makes you think :) Its a great reminder.

I think that this song reflects mans currents state. As we pray on his grave, our words fall and decay means that men are losing faith in God, as faith is neccesry for prayers to be anwered. I liek how it says tribe of Judas after the line until detrhoned by man. As those who follow in Iscariots foot steps and reject God and take advantage of Him, they lead to the fall of man. I could go on about this song but i am far to lazy.
