What's being said here is that people who are waiting for a "modern messiah" are waiting in vain. The last three lines are pretty much saying even being pious doesn't grant just rewards (at least not in this life).

Cool song. I like the instrumental riffs

If you listen to or read the lyrics, skip every other line it will make more sense.

"As we wait for a sign" "these streets arent paved with gold" "My sould is growing gold"

Now do it with the remaing verses

"We are greated by the end of time" "You're my everything"

The first three verses show the world as we wait for God to return, and the next two verses, show after God returns.

the piano part at the end is absolutely beautiful. i disagree with pix about the very last part, though. i don't think god returns at all. i think everything just comes to a natural end because there's nothing eternal apart from god.

I hate to say it, but none of you guys are exactly right. I'm not trying to be arrogant, but the actual basis of this album was to write about a time when God becomes so tired of being shut out by men, He leaves, He dies, He goes to sleep forever. Essentially, God cuts Himself off from men. And here we have the final and most truthful song of them all. The hopelessness. We have people who return again to seek God but don't find Him. They seek a sign, but instead are greeted by death. And in death, they do not find the rewards that once were held when God was with them, instead they find something else. And though God is their everything, it is to late and their souls grow cold. Though God would never abandon us like this, it is a scary thing to try and comprehend. This is the basis of the whole album.

Sadly Zao didn't play this song live when I saw them in S.F. but they did really blow it up. I agree with what everyone has stated above, this song does get you thinking. We need to keep our chins up and hearts open.
