Simple Things Lyrics
If you want me I'll be there
A boy to deal with all your problems
But part of the deal
Is for you to feel something
If you want me look me up
I don't exist in usual places
Subtle as the wind is grey
If you want me you know where I am
I saw your arms in a dream
And there were blue veins
Blue, blue veins
If you want me all you have to do
Is ask a thousand questions
Triplicate and file under
"Simple things you ask to make a young boy sigh"
Young boy sigh
Young boy sigh
A boy to deal with all your problems
But part of the deal
Is for you to feel something
I don't exist in usual places
Subtle as the wind is grey
I saw your arms in a dream
And there were blue veins
Blue, blue veins
Is ask a thousand questions
Triplicate and file under
"Simple things you ask to make a young boy sigh"
Young boy sigh
Young boy sigh

I had a dream and there were blue veins! :O! As in she actually has a heart and isn't just a complaining bitch looking for an excuse to argue. He's in a world of his own and only wants to be bothered with her if she's willing to be "deep". "Deep" people would be able to understand when he says "subtle as the wind is grey".
This is such a wonderful song. To me it relates to the way my relationship developed with my husband. In the first verse it seems to go over how the boy is offering his help, but understands that kind of investment and caring will lead to feelings. So in return he will want her feelings. He'll deal with everything, just dont "friend zone" him.
In the second he tells her that if she wants him she needs to look for him. Though hes not hiding from her, it shows some effort because hes not easy to find. It would show him that she has some kind of interest for her to go through the trouble. But it keeps him distant enough to keep his feeling safe.
In the third things have a slight change. She seems to know where he is, but it also seems like hes let her know. To him he sees her "blue veins" which can just be simple and mean the blues. He wants to help her even more now.
In the last it seems that he cant really help it anymore. Just talking to him, getting to know him (asking questions) will lead him to being hers. When you get to know someone or someone shows interesting in getting to know you, and you like them, sometimes you just sigh in longing. So just asking him questions is making him long to know, care and help her more than ever.
In conclusion, it went from him trying to keep distant to protect himself from feelings, to her just getting to know him brings him to sighs.
I can’t believe no one has commented on this song yet. It could be as obvious as to what it means by reading the text, yet I gain so much more out of this song, despite it’s length in time it’s meaning is just that more brilliant. This song can go with any mood in my opinion.

I love that.. I hope people gain perspective from songs like these.
amazing song.
amazing song.
Simple, powerful and beautiful. When I read the lyrics, it reminds me of a shy boy having feelings for a person (a girl perhaps) who is troubled. He feels diappointed and hurt when he does try and help, as this person doesn't reciprocate and doesn't understand how deeply he feels. It's like talking to a brick wall- the person who he dreams about doesn't read between the lines, doesn't understand he is "subtle as the wind is grey" rather than the glaring, obviousness in spelling out his affections or his availability. I love that line "subtle as the wind is grey,"- it echoes the idea in the song about having an image in your head of something intangible or something you can't quite touch- a lot like seeing "your arms in a dream, and there were blue veins, blue, blue veins." He can't reach this person he is so fond of. This song is beautiful. I haven't heard it in years.
nice comment, neverend412... hmmm... i think i just might be able to relate to this song
"I saw your arms in a dream And there were blue veins Blue, blue veins" ^Heroin!
the narrator doesn't want to be found, and makes elaborate statements allowing you to think you can find him. i don't think the heroin connection is strong enough. i think this is about how we're all alone and can't be found, do we want to be found? we're on our self-produced nod off.
I hope that every person in the world can find a song that they can connect to strongly. For me this is that song. It is simple and profound. Triplicate and file under "Things to make a young boy sigh". It scares me how deeply eleven words can touch you.
