Call Me Mellow Lyrics
Fill the sky with love
Fill the sky with love
I wouldn't mind but she just turned up on the doorstep
Wishful in ashes slightly bedraggled
Last time I saw her she was howling at the moon
Roaming the forest, leap pine and rabbits
Oh is she wild?
Does she see my inner child?
But then she knows it's like a curse
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow
If only I was half-mage and she was older
We'd live on ice-cream on Coney Island
I know it's gravity that drags down my balloon
She stays in orbit way after midnight
Oh slip and slide
Does she go on the Elide?
But then she knows it's like a curse
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow
She'll dress down for us
She'll break new grounds for us
Watching me cracking up
She'll hang around fellows
With all the groundswellers
Driving me like a truck
But then she knows it's like a curse
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow
Fill the sky with love
Wishful in ashes slightly bedraggled
Last time I saw her she was howling at the moon
Roaming the forest, leap pine and rabbits
Does she see my inner child?
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow
We'd live on ice-cream on Coney Island
I know it's gravity that drags down my balloon
She stays in orbit way after midnight
Does she go on the Elide?
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow
She'll break new grounds for us
Watching me cracking up
With all the groundswellers
Driving me like a truck
To find the chosen roles reversed
To unify my universe
To call me mellow

Quote from Curt about this song meaning:
'Basically the lyrics wete Roland's, in this case his experience with a girl he knew since she was very young. And she tunred up like this 18 year old gorgeous woman. There was a mixture of lust and guilt, because even at 40 or whatever, you still lust after 18 or 20 year olds but you don't take it any further cos there is too much guilt, My God, thats my child. Its a very conflicting emotion in that its like, oh my God, how sad, but then again you are grateful for it, because it is a sign of maturity'
TequilaGirl - are you thinking of Emiliana Torrini the Italian/Icelandic singer that Roland produced a few years back? He is a married man as well!
@Mrs_Orzabal No, I think it’s Emily!

Oh this is a great song on Tears for Fears great new album! I love the opening verse, where he's talking about a werewolf...The whole song seems to be about a girl he fell in love with whose a lot of fun.
This is probably my favourite song from the Happy Ending CD. I think it speaks volumes about relationships and about the pure, raw energy that some girls seem to possess, and how contageously invigorating that energy can be when you're around them. A couple of corrections on the lyrics, though: I believe the second line should read "Wistful and ashen, slightly bedraggled." Seems to make more sense that way. Also, the first line of the second stanza is "If only I was half my age..." (You can see how that fits in). Does anybody else besides me see the link at the bottom of the page to "Who We Are", and start singing "Who You Are" to yourselves? Just curious.
I'm not sure, as I haven't seen "official" lyrics or anything but the line "leap pine and rabbits" might actually be "lupine and rabid", at least that's what it sounds like to me. Plus it would fit if it's about a werewolf. I'm such a nerd...
I always thought that the second pre chorus the 'on the Elide' line was 'does she go all duey eyed' lol i think its a pretty good line
in fact im pretty sure that is the line
Yeah, a lot of those lines are wrong. I have the CD with the official lyrics. Here are some changes:
"Wishful in ashes slightly bedraggled" should be "Wistful and ashen, slightly bedraggled"
"Roaming the forest, leap pine and rabbits" should be "Roaming the forest, lupine and rabid"
"To find the chosen roles reversed" should be "To find our chosen roles reversed"
"If only I was half-mage and she was older" should be "If only I was half my age and she was older"
"Does she go on the Elide?" should be "Does she go all dewey-eyed"
When I was in line to see TFF in Hollywood for this new album, someone mentioned that Roland had a relationship with a young singer(I think she's French or Spanish) whose record he produced.
nocheapthrill, i agree with the wrong lyrisc up there. I mean i didn't have th original but if you listen to it, it sounds more just like you said. And plus with the worng lyrics up some don't make sense, and the correct ones do. Anyways i love this song, and for some strange reason it makes me think of that song by the La's called "There she goes" maybe the beat is similar but the songs feel some how alike. Anywho, great song, i love to soo much!^ ^
@KristieisRad \r\n\r\nin an interview, TFF acknowledged the similarities between the two songs both in beat and melody

Wow...the lyrics are way off here. I don't think there's any arguing with Mrs. Orzabal on the song meaning. Great job.
I'll try and post my own lyrics to clear some things up =/
