It's morbid, but you'll always be waiting for the afterlife, which is probably why an organ and church bells play during the chorus. It doesn't matter what you soak your bread in because you're just passing the time.
Although I'm not sure if this part refers to the waiting or the pretending, "you can do it all the time" because you literally spend your life waiting for it to end. On the other hand, faking a good time at work in the morning paints a completely different image than vengefully waiting to die.

this and dime have that electric atari-like sound which makes the songs a helluva lot better. That sound is in the right channel.
I think this song means that these two people are together and the one person knows that the other person isn't interested in him/her anymore so he/she's saying that their partner is waiting for someone else
