Carbon Monoxide Lyrics
Too much carbon monoxide
For me to bear
Too much carbon monoxide
For me to bear
Where's the air?
Where's the air?
Where's the air?
Where's the air?
Car after bus after car after truck
After this my lungs'll be so fucked up
I wish I was in that Mercedes-Benz
Sealed away from my sense
I'd have the music high, going ninety-five
Ahhhhh!
Too much (Too much!)
Too much
Too much (Too much!)
Too much
Too much (Too much!)
Hey!
Hey!
Too much carbon monoxide
For me to bear
Too much carbon monoxide
For me to bear
Don't you care?
Don't you care?
Don't you, don't you, don't you care? (Don't you care?)
Car after bus after car after truck
After this my lungs will be so fucked up
I wish I wasn't just a pedestrian
Breathing all this in
I look up at that gray sky
It makes me want to...
Ahhhhh!
Too much (Too much!)
Too much
Too much (Too much!)
Too much
Too much (Too much!)
Too much
Hey!
Hey!
Too much carbon monoxide
For me to bear

It's not really about pollution. -_- When has cake ever been that easy, unless they were covering another song?
"I wish I was in that Mercedes-Benz Sealed away from my sins"
"I wish I wasn't just a pedestrian Breathing all this in"
I'm just taking a guess, but it seems to have something to do with the rich and the poor. Or maybe even how corrupt society is (the same thing as the pollution idea, but a little more general), and that he wishes he were rich and he didn't have to worry about the sins of humanity.
shrugs Maybe I'm over-analyzing it, but the sins line seems to lead me to believe that it isn't just about air pollution, even if that may be what inspired the song.
its about pollution, how we pollute the shit outta our world.. and his lungs are getting fucked up.. thats pretty much it..
its easy..
I wonder if his lungs are getting F***ed up with more than Carbon Monoxide? hmm That would explain some of the song lyrics.
Last time I saw Cake perform, John McCrea said that he wrote this song when he was waiting to catch a bus. Definately about pollution.
This song sounds like The Hippos. Too goofy for Cake, says i...
I've gotta agree with immortal, cake is never that obvious, their songs are always filled with subtle meanings.
Well, actually I was at a CAKE show and he pretty much said flat out that he wrote this song when he was waiting for a bus at a bus stop, then griped about public transportation in California, and said he was pretty surprised they even included it in the CD, so yeah, read into it all you want but it really is that simple.

Is the line really "Sealed away from my sins"? I thought it was "sense" as in sense of smell.
This song is pretty simple. And surprisingly uninspired as far as cake music goes. at least "up so close" had a good trumpet riff.
