Take It All Away Lyrics

You keep pushing me away
In spite of what you say
I found out yesterday that I've
Been wasting all my time
Trying to make you smile
Trying to make this seem worthwhile
You've been pushing me around
In spite of what I do
Trying to make things good for you

Take your economy car and your suitcase
Take your psycho little dogs
Take it all away

You've been racing through my mind
You're picking up in speed
You're driving recklessly
It's like a car crash happening on my street
Broken bodies at my feet
And sirens on the way

They're too late
'Cause nobody's going to save us
We're a rubbernecker's dream
We're burning gasoline

Go
Take your economy car and your suitcase
Take your psycho little dogs
Take it all away

And go
Go ahead and destroy this
Better come with an army
Are you feeling, feeling okay, baby?

Uh huh
Na na
Na na, na na, na na
Na na, na na, na na, na na, na na

Take your economy car and your suitcase
Take your psycho little dogs
Take it all away

Pretty obvious, a relationship that can't be saved so just help me try and forget it ever happened.

great metaphors here, especially the crash. and i can totally relate to the psycho little dogs.

Brilliant arrangement: the sped up funeral march part after the "crash" part is very funny!

The meaning: pretty straight up stuff about a relationship where give and take is non-existent, the relationship that's about to crash...

Totally straightforward, but I love the way he goes about it: It's like a car crash happening on my street Broken bodies at my feet And sirens on the way

They're too late 'Cause nobody's going to save us We're a rubbernecker's dream We're burning gasoline

Probably my favorite song on this album, 2nd being "Wheels", which should have been a single!

but there is a happier point at the end of the song which people havent mentioned.. "And go Go ahead and destroy this Better come with an army Are you feeling, feeling okay, baby?"

The guy is letting her go, she will leave but the whole thing wont upset/"destroy" him - maybe she is shocked that he doesnt seem upset where the line "Are you feeling, feeling okay, baby?" comes in -- i can imagine the guy smiling here. like hes almost 'caught her out/unexpected' because hes not showing his upset

This is probably my favorite song on Pressure Chief. Good album. Cake is absolutely an awesome band to see live, by the way.

i think 'alpinist00' is right about the give and take consistency of this song. hes obviously giving and shes just taking and not giving anything in return. and it obviously takes two people to make it work. both people need to give and take equally other wise .. well its obvious. its such a great song. this band doesnt get enough attention at all.

snugasagrub, I kind of disagree with your interpretation of those lyrics at the end, but I do find them puzzling. The "Better come with an army" line makes it sound like he's going to try his hardest to keep the relationship going, to oppose her attempt to "destroy it", which kind of goes against what's said during the rest of the song.

I've always thought of it as being said sarcastically/cynically, but after thinking about it I'm not sure that makes sense either. Hmm...

My Interpretation

I think it's a snapshot of an argument. He's yelling - go, go, take everything and get out of here... and as the anger's expressed and he says that it's too late, she breaks down... And he still really does care, so he backs off and asks about her, but it might be too late by now...
