Mr. Cardiac Lyrics

[the girl]

Hey Mr. Cardiac
Where's my heart attack?
I placed my order six hours ago.
Come on, listen man
You got to understand
I got places to meet
And people to make
And money to blow

Heyy Mr. Solitaire
I ain't no Frigidaire
Don't play the martyr
Like the rest of those clowns
Get off your easy chair
Call Tony Millionaire
Cause we're going to town
And you're setting 'em up
And I'm knocking them down

Hey Mr. Cardiac
Please can you spare me ten dollars?
Hey, what do you say Mr. Cardiac
I'll pay you on Friday
But can't you help me with a dime?

Don't tell Chameleon Man
He never understands
Sits on his fortune
And stares at the wall
Let's hot-wire a Cadillac
Take it to hell and back
Let's get away from it all
You've got her in your hand
She's got him by the balls

Hey Mr. Cardiac
Please can you spare me ten dollars?
Hey, what do you say Mr. Cardiac
I'll pay you on Friday
But can't you help me with a dime?

Little Miss Succubous
Caught a downtown bus
Chasing the dragon a quarter to five
Spare me the tickertape
Time to negotiate
Give me the long and the short
Are you on the inside?
Is she dead or alive?

Hey Mr. Cardiac
Please can you spare me ten dollars?
Hey, what do you say Mr. Cardiac
I'll pay you on Friday
But can't you help me with a dime?

Nah, Jennifer Charles from Elysian Fields. You also hear her on "The Circus" on this record, and "Bad, Bad World" off of Psychopharmacology.

The most notable difference between Jennifer Charles and Courtney Love is that Jennifer Charles is talented.

Is the woman who sings this Courtney Love?

Probably one of Firewater's less obvious songs. It seems to be written from the perspective of a woman who uses sex appeal to get money from men. It's possible that this could be about an ex of Tod's, but I think it's more a song written in jest. Chameleon Man is a reference to a Cop Shoot Cop song, Tod's previous band. OP spelled "succubus" wrong in the lyrics. A Frigidaire would be a specific brand of refrigerator; there's possibly a deeper meaning to that line, but I'd say the point is that she's trying to say she isn't cold and mechanical, and of course she isn't; she's a hot, predatory creature. Ticker tape was an earlier form of communications, used to transmit stock info, so besides being a pun for a further cardiac reference (ticker = heart), it's also a reference to her interest in getting money unfairly, ie not doing any work but just getting it from her men. I still don't understand the references to hearts, though. Is it an appeal to romance? Meh.
