A New Friend Lyrics
A Valentine's Day party
I didn't think you'd show
You don't like making entrances alone
You've got a new friend
He likes to go to movies
He likes to drink red wine
Sounds familiar, better hold on tight
A film school drunk can be so hard to find
You've got a new friend
And the two of you don't ever seem to part
Now I'm the odd man gone
You've got a new friend
And your mom's got you convinced that he's the one
He's all you need, so forget me
Marry him at once
But if you ever change your mind
I could still buy that box of wine
I still have your copy of Harold and Maude
But you've got a new friend
I didn't think you'd show
You don't like making entrances alone
He likes to drink red wine
Sounds familiar, better hold on tight
A film school drunk can be so hard to find
And the two of you don't ever seem to part
Now I'm the odd man gone
You've got a new friend
He's all you need, so forget me
Marry him at once
I could still buy that box of wine
I still have your copy of Harold and Maude

sorry, its: "i could still buy that box of wine"
i can always turn to tim kasher to have songs that accurately portray my life.
man.this song.
...hm... is it sardistic to show this song to your boyfriend when you already know that you will quit with him in a few days...? ...i guess it is... i'm sorry
so sad. but pretty. and sad. and kinda something i hope doesn't happen to me anytime soon. damn.
i also kind of like reading it like the singer isn't an ex like i first thought, but maybe just the girls best guy friend and he doesn't want her but he knows that there's not place for him in her life after she gets married. still sad either way you look at it.
This is so desperately sad. I hope I haven't mad e this true in my own life. even though I don't have any "drunken lullabies" of my own, I can relate to nearly all of the songs. It's amazing.
wow. Songs don't usually make me cry. I'm obssessed with Elliott Smith and none of his songs make me hold back tears like they do for most people. This song though, my god. It's my situation right down the the harold and maude part. I'm holding tears back by the end of the first line. Tim Kasher never ever ceases to amaze me.
So haunting.
amen.
