It Just Is Lyrics
Today's the day I realized
That I could be loved
It echoed though the park last night
He wasn't our son
He belonged to everyone
And this loss isn't good enough
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Because everybody dies
And this loss isn't good enough
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Everybody
And this loss isn't good enough
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Because everybody dies
That I could be loved
It echoed though the park last night
He wasn't our son
He belonged to everyone
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Because everybody dies
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Everybody
For sorrow or inspiration
It's such a loss for the good guys
Afraid of this life
That it just is
Because everybody dies

a wonderful eulogy in a sense to Elliot Smith. So depressing but yet uplifting at the same time, Only Rilo Kiley could pull it off. I think in a sense this song is just basically about how Eliot touched on so many lives and how this song can't really make up for a death but it's kind of a contribution to him or his spirit. Basically it's just an homage to Elliot Smith. Beautiful, just beautiful.
This is one of the only songs that bring me to tears. Elliott Smith was such an amazing, talented person. I love how Rilo can take a simple song and put so much emotion and beauty into it.
Props to Rilo Kiley-beautiful song.
a wonderful song about a wonderful person.
i really like this song, and the meaning behind it makes it even better. when i first heard the song, though, i thought that it was an everyday person who wasn't all that special and didn't cause much disturbance with their death, but after hearing that this is about elliott smith, i'm confused because his death did cause a lot of sorrow and inspiration.
I could be off base with this, but when she says, "this loss isn't good enough for sorrow or inspiration" and "it's such a loss for the good guys...that it just is," I believe she means that with Elliott's death someone can't just say it caused sorrow or inspiration. It was much more than that. She can't find words to describe how big a loss it is. Hence, ""it just is."
good point. i hadn't thought of it that way, Last Exit to MPLS. thanks.
"This loss isn't good enough for sorrow or inspiration..."
In other words, what a WASTE. We miss you, Elliott.
Oh, Elliott...
This song is amazing. I may be hugely daft to ask, but considering I don't know a ton about Elliot Smith, how is it obvious that this song is about him?
