This song is dedicated to her mother who died of cancer, I can easily imagine Mindy Smith writing this song during her mother is dying on her bed. It has touched me so deeply and the way MS sings it is so moving. The lyrics are simple but her words are so deep and so sincere. I got tears in my eyes the first time I listened it. Plus MS is a talented singer and her voice is an amazing grace.
Just reading the lyrics chokes me up a bit. You can apply this song to so many tragic losses in life- a relationship or death. Makes you think to not take things for granted and cherish each day.
I love songs that are so direct and simple, yet can still be so open to different interpretations in different life circumstances. A lover leaving or a mother dying, the song can help anyone going through the pain.

This is a beautiful song... to me this song is about someone Very close to her that she's knows is dying soon because of being sick... this song is her trying to deal... She's pleading for her friend to just hold on... don't leave her... "you've gotta hold me and maybe ill believe" wanting to be assured that everything is going to be ok... i could be completely wrong but this is what it means to me...
I feel so terrible that her mother died...and its funny but it reminds me of when my mother had cancer also and everytime i hear it, i always cry.

I only heard this song like a year or so ago on the season finale of the 3rd season of 'Smallville'. I bought the DVD set the other day and actually PAYED attention to it and its gorgeous. She has SUCH a pretty voice and it holds SO much emotion. Although its a direct song its VERY emotional. I love the cyclical nature of it...
