Devil Got my Woman Lyrics
You know, I'd rather be the Devil,
I'd rather be the Devil, then to be that woman's man
Yes I'd rather be the Devil, then to be that woman's man
You look so sorry,
You look so sorry, that I ever fell in love with you
Because you know you don't treat me, baby like you used to do
You no lay down last night
You no lay down last night, and I tried to take me some rest
But my mind got to ramblin', like the wild gease from the west
You know the woman that I love
The woman that i love, I stole her from my best friend
But you know, he done got lucky, and he done got her back again
You never used to cut your kindling,
You never used to cut your kindling, baby then I make you some fire,
Then I would turn all your water, way way way from these bogy bires
You know my baby she don't drink whiskey
My baby she don't drink no whiskey and I know she ain't crazy bout wine
Now it was nothing but the Devil, he done changed my babies' mind
You know I could be right
You know I could be right, then again I could be wrong
But it was nothing but the Devil, he done got my baby and he done gone
I'd rather be the Devil, then to be that woman's man
Yes I'd rather be the Devil, then to be that woman's man
You look so sorry, that I ever fell in love with you
Because you know you don't treat me, baby like you used to do
You no lay down last night, and I tried to take me some rest
But my mind got to ramblin', like the wild gease from the west
The woman that i love, I stole her from my best friend
But you know, he done got lucky, and he done got her back again
You never used to cut your kindling, baby then I make you some fire,
Then I would turn all your water, way way way from these bogy bires
My baby she don't drink no whiskey and I know she ain't crazy bout wine
Now it was nothing but the Devil, he done changed my babies' mind
You know I could be right, then again I could be wrong
But it was nothing but the Devil, he done got my baby and he done gone

I found this song by watching Ghost World. It can be used to create quite a reminiscing atmosphere.
This is the version he did after his "rediscovery" in the '60's. The combination of his hollow sounding guitar and ultra high tenor/falseto voice made for a very errie style, that will stick with you. Even if you son't like the genre, style, theme or artist, you'll find that this tune, and many others on his CD "Blues from the Delta" will dig themselves into the back of your mind.
I found out about this man on a doco on the blues and this guy lead the most interesting life from bootlegger, struggling musician at the start of the depression then dissapeared when he joined the church only to be found in a hospital years later. well worth a read
this song is really weird and unique.
quite strange, it's not really like any music of this kind i've heard before, i don't think it's something i'd get used to listening to, this song. it's peaceful and yet unsettling. sad and angry.
pretty amazing.
nostalgia. errie nostalgia.
shivers.
Yeah, skip jame's was out of this world. He has the most beautiful voice ever. Whoever says christina aguilera and beyonce are good singers, are idiots. They are nothing compared to skip james who actually has so much feeling in his voice it almost sounds like he is weeping.
