Pink Glove Lyrics

You'd better watch what you're wearing,
If you want him to come round and see you tonight.
He doesn't care what it looks like,
Just as long as it's pink and it's tight.

Oh, so what should you do?
Should you stop being you?
Just to be how he wants you?
Oh, say you'll visit your mum,
Then tell me that you'll come,
And meet me in the afternoon.

He's got your heart,
He's got control.
You might as well know.

I know you're never going to be with me,
But if you try sometimes then maybe,
You could get it right first time.

I realize that you'll never leave him,
But every now and then in the evening.
You could get it right first time.

I know you think I've got to be joking,
But if you touch him again then I'm going.
You got it right first time.
Get it right first time.

Now you've done it once now he wants you,
To wear your pink glove all the time.

Oh, so what should you do?
Should you stop being you?
Just to be how he wants you?
Oh, say you'll visit your mum,
Then tell me that you'll come,
And meet me in the afternoon.

He's got your heart,
He's got control.
You might as well know.

I know you're never going to be with me
But if you try sometimes then maybe,
You could get it right first time.
I realise that you'll never leave him,
But every now and then in the evening.

You could get it right first time.
I know you think I've got to be joking,
But if you touch him again then I'm going.
You got it right first time.
Get it right first time.

Oh you'll always be together,
'cause he gets you up in leather.
So you know what to wear at the end of the day,
And I'd laugh if I saw,
But I'm out of the way.

Yeah it's too long ago,
Shouldn't care anymore but I wanted to know;
Is it as good as before?
Yeah it's hard to believe that you'd go for that stuff,
All those baby-doll nighties with synthetic fluff.
Yeah it looks pretty good and it fits you OK,
Wear your pink glove babe,
He put it on the wrong way.

I know you're never going to be with me
But if you try sometimes then maybe,
You could get it right first time.
I realize that you'll never leave him,
But every now and then in the evening.
You could get it right first time.

I know you think I've got to be joking,
But if you touch him again then I'm going.
You got it right first time.
Get it right first time.

This song is a man's observations about a girl he used to be with, who is now in a relationship with another man who is...a little bit pervy. The verses and bridge seem to mock her situation; "Now you've done it once now he wants you, to wear your pink glove all the time" and "I'd laugh if I saw...but I'm out of the way"...

Then the chorus reminds her that, even though she has chosen to live her life this way, if she ever feels unhappy, then he'll always be around to offer her some 'comfort' if she ever needs it; "say you'll visit your mum, then tell me that you'll come and meet me in the afternoon".

"Pink glove" is referring to lingerie - hence "baby-doll nighties with synthetic fluff" and it "fits you okay".

The speaker's (Jarvis') ex girlfriend is basically dressing up in cheesey lingerie to please her current Significant Other (who has some pink lingerie fetish), and the speaker is mocking it as a way to mock their relationship. Of course, like most Pulp songs, the speaker is bitter about the fact that the girl is now with some lame, cheesey guy instead of him ("he's got your heart, you've got his soul"). He knows she will never leave her SO, but he wants her to have an affair with him & to admit she was happier with him.

The speaker is saying she got it right first time, meaning she got it right when she was dating him & implying she is getting it wrong with her current SO. He's basically making a pass at her by saying she could "get it right" again with him, and to come "visit" him & lie to her SO about where she is going (to have an affair with him).

"I know you think I've got to be joking, but if you touch him again, then I'm going" - I think this line is about his repulsion over her being with her SO, and possibly he has seen them engage in PDA and it stung him. OR, it's a threat that if she keeps sleeping with her SO, then he'll end the affair. In any case, he is expressing jealousy.

I always thought this song tied in with "Do You Remember the First Time?". It has pretty much the same theme of bitterness over an ex & her new relationship. He mocks the new relationship, but still vies for an affair with his ex, claiming he doesn't really care & just wants sex.

By 'comfort' obviously, well, you know what I mean. The song is just one big seething, brimming pot of sleaze...but then, that's Pulp.

People are saying this song's sleazy, and I hope they're talking about the girl's new boyfriend. I think Jarvis seems to be surprisingly nice about the whole thing. I didn't realise he said 'sod off' though. That's just funny. Lol.♥

The second line in the chorus should be "But do you understand now that maybe", not "But if you try sometimes then maybe", no clue where you got that from

Very His n Hers and delicious. Great hooks and vocals. Love the climax. Not sure about the "if you touch him again then I'm going" line, but all else seems clear enough.

sleaze verse, my heart.

What is a 'pink glove', anyway?

And so what does the fantastic line 'wear your pink glove babe, you've put it on the wrong way!' mean?

The line makes the girl look foolish, like she's trying to do something or be something that she probably shouldn't be, and not even quite getting it right. Awesome.

@boozm

I hear the line as 'he put it on the wrong way'. I always imagined the pink glove to be some kind of spandex body suit, perhaps with holes strategically cut into it. This being the case, putting it on the wrong way might be to give access to the ex's behind - Jarvis is taking this as further evidence that the ex's new man is disrespectful towards his ex and is just using her to satisfy his own kinky desires. As others have said, Jarvis is very bitter that she seems satisfied with this guy - he feels they had...

I think this song is about, an unhealthy relationship with a new boyfriend that a girl has got herself into. Jarvis is the 'first time' - he misses her pink glove - probably sexual reference ~ as a man masturbates with his hand - the glove refers to her genitals that he is just using her for sex, as though sex isnt about love, "he doesnt care what it looks like.. just as long as it's pink and it's tight" - ie sex with anyone.

just lust "he's got your heart" meaning that she loves him and "you've got his soul" - not as good as love.

As said above - drug references run through the song, ''i know you think i've gotta be joking.. but if you touch him (drugs) again than i'm going.''
