When The Angels Play Their Drum Machines Lyrics
And we drove, on a wet and windy road
To the coast, to a dirty seaside town
Found a room, in a hotel by the sea
Unpacked our bags,
And then she looked at me, and I said
'Let me, let you, let me down again'
She said 'no'
'Let me, let you, let me down again'
She said 'no'
'Please draw the curtains,
Unplug the phone
Let's mess the sheets
And give our hearts a home
We are both adults,
Our eyes are open wide
Let's push away
The world outside'
Moving to the west end was a big, big, big mistake
We lost all our money and we got mostly heartache
Some nights she would sigh, and place her head upon my lap
And she would cry,
I couldn't stop her shaking, I said
'Let me, let you, let me down again'
She said 'no'
'Let me, let you, let me down again',
She said 'no'
'Please draw the curtains,
Unplug the phone
Let's mess the sheets
And give our hearts a home
We are both adults,
Our eyes are open wide
Let's push away
The world outside'
'Let me, let you, let me down again...'

I love the line 'let me, let you, let me down again'. It's so sweet, like he's saying to the girl, 'look, you can get out of this, you can leave it all behind and I won't be angry, I'll understand'. Romance without the aspartame. Beautiful.
i also love that line, but kind of see it in a different way. i think he's talking to someone who's dumped him before, but he still wants to get back together with her, even though he knows she's probably going to end up dumping him again in the end anyway. he needs her that much.
