Temping as a Shaman Lyrics
oh how good you could have been kid, if no one had every told you, that you were any good.
you really could have been as good kid, as you were before anyone ever told you, that you were any good.
like a space age cave man.
i got this job as a temp as a shaman, waiting in an endless line of my identical selves.(x2) waiting only to betray my own monument.
like an ancient astronaut.
i got this job as a temp as a shaman, waiting in an endless line of my identical selves. all these me's just stand around, tapping the me ahead of me on the shoulder to ask, "what are you here for?"
and you know what your voice says about you when you speak of taste and say, "i'm sorry i'm not sorry."
and are you comfortable under my algebra, between the folds of my palms? temping as a shaman. temping as a shaman.

everyone is playing something different. it shouldnt go together, but it does. and does well. and it just fucking makes me speechless.
brilliant band. see them live. tim kinsella is absolutely insane. Such talented guys. The drummer actually plays the keyboard while drumming during this song. Anyway, this song seems to be about growing up with such confidence in your abilities instilled in you by the compliments of the adults around you that you don't apply yourself to your full potential.
i.e. "you really could've been as good kid, as you were before anyone ever told you that you were any good." Pretty much sums it up, I think. And "waiting only to betray my own monument." The monument being the image of him his parents/teachers have created that he won't live up to.
Or maybe I'm just projecting my own life on the song...
actually, i just listened to the song again, and he actually says "waiting only to betray my own momentum" which makes even more sense.
best song
i've been in love with this song for years, i don't even know if i want to hear the rest of their discography, how could it measure up?
oh, and i think he says "my own Momentum"
