Watch Your Words Lyrics
Watch your words
Or your words might drown you
And cure my wounds
And the light will blind you
To truly see, well you must have faith
Oh, the righteous they can't wait, oh no
A saving grace that all we know
Let us pray
Let us hold on, oh
Chorus:
I can't breathe
I prefer to find a ceiling
To this hate of mine
I can't win
I can fight no more
I'm drowning
And I'm sick inside
Push no more
And the day will find you
Speak no truth
And your ways will end you
It's alright
And you must move on
Though the damage has been done
Cherish the life and the ones you hold
Can you change?
Can you go on, oh?
Repeat Chorus
To truly see, well you must have faith
Oh, the righteous they can't wait, no
A saving grace that all we know
Let us pray
Let us hold on, oh
Repeat Chorus
I can't breathe
Or your words might drown you
And cure my wounds
And the light will blind you
Oh, the righteous they can't wait, oh no
A saving grace that all we know
Let us pray
Let us hold on, oh
I can't breathe
I prefer to find a ceiling
To this hate of mine
I can't win
I can fight no more
I'm drowning
And I'm sick inside
And the day will find you
Speak no truth
And your ways will end you
And you must move on
Though the damage has been done
Cherish the life and the ones you hold
Can you change?
Can you go on, oh?
Oh, the righteous they can't wait, no
A saving grace that all we know
Let us pray
Let us hold on, oh

The title of this song best explains it, watch your worlds. This song is about how words can bring people down and can even your words can turn on you and cause trouble for yourself.
I'm going to go a little outside of the box here with this interpretation, bare with me.
I think that this song really refers to a lot of Schizophrenia and how it can affect a person's life. Now, you have to properly define Schizophrenia, and it's different from split personality (although there are some similarities).
Schizophrenia is hard to define first of all because in itself there are different kinds of cases. But it is typically defined as bizarre behavior, paranoia, delusions, and 'different' perception of reality.
I think this song could be about how a person slipped into, or triggered, their Schizophrenia.
The bases of the song deals with how lying to other people, in social instances, can "drown you". And how the lies eventually become reality to the victim.
"And cure my wounds, and the light will blind you". This line compares physical wounds to the deep mental scarring that Schizophrenia can cause. How the victim will eventually become socially outcast, locked-in, withdrawn, reserved. All of the above. The "light will blind you" because the person is a shut-in who has very limited social activity.
Chorus: "I can't breathe" This is just the description of how a person with Schizophrenia can feel, almost as if they are drowning.
"I prefer to find a ceiling" Instead of trying to overcome, and accomplish something. They tend to look at the negatives and 'limit' themselves by finding a "ceiling".
"I can't win I can fight no more I'm drowning And I'm sick inside"
This describes how the victim would feel as their Schizophrenia worsens and becomes a virus to their life.
"Push no more And the day will find you Speak no truth And your ways will end you"
How giving up can result in "the day" that the person ultimately gives up by sacrificing themselves.
How lying ("speak no truth") will tear the person apart and the people will grow tired of the victim's delusions.
"It's alright And you must move on Though the damage has been done Cherish the life and the ones you hold Can you change? Can you go on, oh?"
How accepting it is the first step, no more denial. The damage has been done, no point in wallowing in the mud.
How the best way to overcome it is by "cherishing the life and the ones you hold".
Can you get better, overcome the illness? Move on with your life?
I know I'm probably way off base but this is what I thought when I heard the song for the 1000th time.

I'm a bit surprised not more has been made of the religious undertones of this song, especially the second verse. Which seems to suggest that only those with God on their side will be saved, and that perhaps watching your words is in relation to being free of sin to ascend to heaven??
Personally I prefer the non-religious context of the song and this interpretation is what I enjoy. This song has a great sound and really encapsulates their sound well (unfortunately many of their other songs fall well short of that).
What an awesome song! Definitely one of the best on the album.
not the best song on the album. its the best song in the world
I think sting is right...i think i'm kinda like that i should watch my words lol but not all the time offcourse
I think this song is about wtaching your words, actually i know co its in the songs name haha. The song altogether seems like something of a warning. Like in the chorus its saying how he feels, and i think he feels the way he does because of what he has said to others. I love the line "I'm sick inside" I know that feeling all too well.
I think the message of the song is "Keep on fighting, keep yourself alive" hence lines like "push no more and the day will find you". The song is telling us to keep faith, keep on fighting and to find a ceiling to our hate, thus preventing us from drowning in it.
It's alright And you must move on Though the damage has been done
its also about u need to watch your words..., but u also need to move on from what you have done, and i agree with every one else, the title describes it best "watch ur words"
There's definitely a warning that you should better yourself, or 'the consequences will never be the same.'
Each line of the verses is basically an instruction and a warning of what will happen if you don't do what is said.
In the prechorus, he uses some imagery that some would argue a religious value to, and in reality, to each their own.
In the chorus, I'm pretty sure this is him that he feels it's too late to better himself.
