And to the world to which we sing,
We are honored you let us in
I remember the thoughts of many things,
Of the glory that you bring

I was never the right one to dare to dream,
It's funny what this life has done to me now
You were always the only,
To help me see there was a road I must find,
A road that was mine

But I'm down to my last,
I'm standing here alone
Looking back, on it all
But I'm down to my last,
I'm ready but I'm wrong,
And I'm blind too

And to the world to which we sing,
Want to try to do us in
I remember your name and I know your face
Can't forgive and can't erase

I was never the right one
To bear the weight of something fueled by words
I'd learn to hate
You were always the only
To help me see that to love is to shine
In your world, blind

But I'm down to my last
I'm standing here alone
Looking back on it all
But I'm down to my last
I'm ready but I'm wrong
And I'm blind too

But I'm down to my last
Well I'm ready but I'm wrong,
And I'm scared of it all

But I'm down to my last
I'm ready but I'm wrong
And I'm blind too
But I'm down to my last
And I'm ready but I'm wrong
And I'm blind too

I have to think that the personal background to this song would have to be Myles Kennedy's transition from the Mayfield Five into Alter Bridge... probably had a lot of people who told him not to do it as well as many who supported himm, seems like he's reflecting back on all of this.

Also, stepping into Scott Staph's shoes at that time would have been a HUGE move and I'm sure there was a lot of uncertainty on Myles' part. The whole verse about how he's not the right one to bear the weight on something fueled by words he learned to hate... it's kind of about how he wasn't the guy who was going to come in an be Scott Staph... but at the same time though, Mark and the other guys in Alter Bridge didn't want him to do that. They just wanted him to be Myles Kennedy.

In general it's just about believing in yourself, drawing support from your friends and fans and not letting the naysayers bring you down. It's incredibly rare that anyone just stumbles into a "perfect" situation... generally you have to sacrifice and through that sacrifice you're going to have a lot of doubts and doubters along the way who try to convince you it's not right.
