This is a song about coming to know that you are not alone in this world and that someone will be with you every step of the way. All you have to do is open your eyes and see that someone is there waiting for you.
I'm thinking the song is speaking out against war. We need to realize that as humans, we're all one and the same, and we need to stop trying to wipe out people whom we deem 'different' from us

Dude Mark's guitar solo in this song kicks lots of ass.
To me this song is quite literal in its meaning. All of the universe is one entity, yet separate. Like waves in an ocean, we are the waves and the universe/God is the ocean. Waves are still part of the ocean, yet maintain their individuality. We are all one being, confused and split into many.
Though that probably doesn't sit too well with the band's Christian beliefs.
I think the sense of this (like most of AB songs) is about going over the illusion of the world that generates separations and conflicts. Myles is deep into holistic vision as related in most oriental and esoteric philosophies: "will they open their and realize we are one?". We are individual manifestations of one bigger reality (call it god, infinite, great spirit) materialised in a physical world. "On and on we stand alone" until our death when we should learn to love each others and the world, cause we are all one thing. Got it guys? So start doing it now, open your eyes!!!! : )))

This song...wow....I dont have any words to describe it. I first heard this song and I was touched, I am totally speechless.
Love It! plain and simple. and it's sick how the band members are from Creed. woo! i totally think sting06 is right with that, you need to know that they are always going to be 'friends' that come and go, but there will always be those certain few who stick with you and let you know they're always there for you.. i dedicate this song to my field hockey girls. i love you guys!
