Kim's Watermelon Gun Lyrics

Well, Kim's got the answer
Her watermelon gun
And all the celebrities want permission
But she won't give it to them
Until they learn how to love

Kim's got her watermelon gun
And it's the consciousness of love
Yeah, Kim's got a watermelon gun
And it's the consciousness of love

And wouldn't it be dumb
If all their atrocities were just forgiven
But she won't give that to them
Until they learn how to love

Kim's got her watermelon gun
And it's the consciousness of love
Yeah, Kim's got a watermelon gun
And it's the consciousness of love

And she won't give it to them
She won't give it to them

This is by far my favorite Lips song. I always like to think it's about a girl named Kim (whether it be Kim Deal from the Pixies or not) who is beautiful and people are suiting her for sex but she respects herself too much and would like real love and a real relationship. Everybody is about one night stands and meaningless flings these days but Kim's beauty is the consciousness of love. I always find the Watermelon Gun part to be a bit of an oxymoron. You have something as colorful and silly as watermelon followed by a serious and lethal gun. Maybe people think that sex is just a silly thing but Kim wants it to be serious and committed. That's my best shot at it but Wayne is always so good at writing songs with deep, hidden meanings.

You know, consciousness (awareness) of love.

Supposedly this song is about Kim Deal of the Pixies.

Really? That would be insane. The Flaming Lips is my favorite band of all time, followed closely by Pixies. I really like Kim Deal and Wayne Coyne. Mindfuck.

The meaning, not quite sure if there is a real one, but the Lips get to rocking pretty damn hard during this song, so unlike their trance-inducing music nowadays.

I always sort of thought this song might be about a squirt gun dosed with LSD.
