She's a Rebel Lyrics
She's a rebel
She's a saint
She's salt of the earth
And she's dangerous
She's a rebel
Vigilante
Missing link on the brink
Of destruction
From Chicago to Toronto
She's the one that they
Call old whatsername
She's the symbol
of resistance
and she's holding on my
heart like a hand grenade
is she dreaming
what I'm thinking
is she the mother of all bombs
gonna detonate
is she trouble
like I'm trouble
make it a double
twist of fate
or a melody that
sings the revolution
the dawning of our lives
she brings the liberation
that I just cant define
nothing comes to mind
She's a rebel
She's a saint
She's salt of the earth
And she's dangerous
She's a rebel
Vigilante
Missing link on the brink
Of destruction
She's a rebel, She's a rebel, She's a rebel, And she's dangerous
She's a rebel, She's a rebel, She's a rebel, And she's dangerous
She's a saint
She's salt of the earth
And she's dangerous
Vigilante
Missing link on the brink
Of destruction
She's the one that they
Call old whatsername
of resistance
and she's holding on my
heart like a hand grenade
what I'm thinking
is she the mother of all bombs
gonna detonate
like I'm trouble
make it a double
twist of fate
or a melody that
the dawning of our lives
she brings the liberation
that I just cant define
nothing comes to mind
She's a saint
She's salt of the earth
And she's dangerous
Vigilante
Missing link on the brink
Of destruction
She's a rebel, She's a rebel, She's a rebel, And she's dangerous

I like how Give Me Novacaine leads right into it. It kind of a hint at the fact that Whatsername is Jimmy's new drug of choice. The lyrics seem to only flatter her in his eyes, intoxication and infatuation on his part.
The line, "the dawning of our lives" is a reference back to the song Holiday, where our hero can't imagine having to live under the present adminstration.
She actually offers hope (in a very personal way) for the future: "she brings the liberation"
It's all a set-up, of course, for tracks 9, 10 ,11, fuck the whole album is brilliantly composed.
i just love the way billie says the word "saint"

I agree with davidecoyote but i also think theres something else. I believe that yes, all the songs on American Idiot, are in referance to eachother- that it tells a story, but i also think that each song can be individually depicted. This song is what made me realize this.
As you all provobly know, This is a political CD with what we have also figured out, a twist of personal experience and emotion towards what we can only imagine or identify through the lyrics. But as i already commented, i think the songs can stand alone and tell a completly differnt story. I think that, "She's a rebel," not only is what davidecoyote has to say, but on the other hand, is speaking about America...
"America's a rebel, America's a saint, America's the salt of the earth, America's Dangerous. America's a rebel, America's vigilante, AMERICA IS THE MISSING LINK ON THE BRINK OF DISTRUCTION. America is the one they call "Old WHATSHERNAME".....
**and America's holding on my heart like a handgrenade
America is the basis of the CD, america is who we are. We make up America, Therefore, we are all the rebels, and we are all the saints, and the nations views are holding on his heart like a handgrenade. He is just trying to tell us how effected he is by politics and our America's decisions.

(i love to death talking about music, so im me if you do too)
I love talking bout music too but is getting hard and harder with time cos ppl join music stiles and musicians with politics and i hate talking about money and politics
don't worry about it dude, shit happens, and if you love talking about music too, talk about music that doesn't have to do with it, avoid it. don't listen to that music.
