Seven Deadly Sins Lyrics

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

So the years rolled by and several died
And left us somewhat reelin'
Johnny strummed his Tommy gun
Left blastin' through the ceiling
So what became of rebels
Who sang for you and me?
Grapplin' with their demons
In the seach for liberty

Suffers who suffer all
Can swim upon the desert
Where avarice have ravaged all
In spite of good intentions
Don't fill your mouth with gluttony
For pride will surely swell
But nothing's unforgiven in the four corners of hell

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

Envy and its evill twin
It crepy in bed with slander
Idiots they gave advice
But sloth it gave no answer
Anger kills the human soul
With butter tales of lust
While pavlov's Dogs keep chewin'
On the legs they never trust

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

But It's the only life we'll know
Blagards to the bome
So don't wreck yourself
Take an honest grip
For there's more tales beyond the shore

Ah the years rolled by and several died
And left us somewhat reelin'
In and out came crawlin' out
And spewed upon the ceiling
So what became of rebels"
That sang for you and me
Grapplin; with their demons
In the seach for liberty

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

Sail away where no ball and chain
Can keep us from the roarin' waves
Together undivided but forever we'll be free
So sail away aboard our rig
The moon is full and so are we
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins
We're seven drunken pirates
We're the seven deadly sins

hate to sink your ship mate, but this song isnt about pirates. although flogging molly do sing quite a bit about sailing and ships and such, i assure you this song means alot more than that. "So the years rolled by and several died And left us somewhat reelin' Johnny strummed his Tommy gun Left blastin' through the ceiling So what became of rebels Who sang for you and me? Grapplin' with their demons In the seach for liberty"

i think that entire verse sums up the meaning behind the song. the years went by and several died is refering to the deaths of some of punk rocks greatest contibutors like joey ramone or joe strummer. and that left the punk world somewhat "reelin" from the blow. the music world as a whole is nowhere near as great as it use to be, and the artists of old are still favored and charished today as some of the pest of all time. these days there arent any bands like the clash or the sex pistols. the question is siply "where have all the good bands gone". what ever happened to the guys who made it big by not selling out. the rebels of rock. those bold souls who broke away from the norm and created perhaps the best genra of music ever. with strong enough voices to say what the world needed to hear. the sex the drugs the strong political aspects, and resistance to conform is what made the music. the message. not tight black t shirts and big pants. not spiked wrist bands and a fauex hawk.
they even give a shout out to joe strummer (whos real name is John Graham Mellor) with the line "Johnny strummed his Tommy gun

Left blastin' through the ceiling" in refenence to the clash hit "tommy gun" maybe this song is about pirates, not those scurvey scally-waggs who sailed the seven seas, but the pirates of punk. those lawless rebels who, in their own way, told the real world what it should hear.

"What became of rebels who sang for you and me?, Grapplin with their demons in the search for liberty."

This is the essence of the song, in my opinion, for it complements the references to Joe Strummer, but more importantly it asks us what happened to our rebels? The ones who, in their pursuit for liberty, had many of their own demons to deal with. A person such as Johnny Cash also.

This song is also about the seven members. I dont which member is supposed to represent which sin, I couldn't tell you that. I do think though that what they might be implictly saying is, and this goes back to what I said earlier, that they are the rebels for this generation. Rebels who will "sing for you and me."
