Better Version of Me Lyrics
The nickel dropped
When I was on
My way beyond
The Rubicon
What did I do?
And of the games that I could handle
None of ‘ems worth a candle
What should I do?
I'm a frightened, fickle person,
Fighting, cryin', kickin', cursin',
What should I do?
Oooh, after all the folderol
And hauling over cold stops
What will I do?
Can't take a good day without a bad one
Don't feel just to smile til I had one
Where did I learn?
I make a fuss about a little thing
The rhyme is losing to the riddling
Where's the turn?
I don't want a home, I’d ruin that
Home is where my habits have a habitat
Why give it turn?
Oooh, after all the folderol
Hauling over coal stops
What did I learn?
I am likely to miss the main event
If I stop to cry and complain again
So I will keep a deliberate pace
Let the damn breeze dry my face
Ooh mister wait until you see
What I’m gonna be
I got a plan, a demand and it just began
And if you're right, you'll agree
Here it’s coming a better version of me
Here it comes a better version of me
Here it comes a better version of me
When I was on
My way beyond
The Rubicon
What did I do?
And of the games that I could handle
None of ‘ems worth a candle
What should I do?
I'm a frightened, fickle person,
Fighting, cryin', kickin', cursin',
What should I do?
Oooh, after all the folderol
And hauling over cold stops
What will I do?
Don't feel just to smile til I had one

it's folderol, not foldin' rollin...
i sure do love this song :)
i think it's about how other people see her and how she feels about herself. she doesn't like it and is planning on making a change. i'm probably way off but this song is important to me.
I am confused about this section: "I am likely to miss the main event If I stop to cry and complain again So I will keep a deliberate pace Let the damn breeze dry my face" Does she mean that she will continue suffering in order not to miss the 'main event' (to learn something), she'll not do anything to stop suffering (rather, keep a deliberate pace), but she'll let the breeze (time) do it for her?
nbril..
when i broke up with my b/f of a year and a few months, that exact series of lyrics was my motto for the first few months w/o him...
to me, that part is just saying "i'm gonna miss new opportunities or chances of happiness if i sit and cry over him...i'm gonna get my ass in gear and move on....the breeze from my pace will dry my tears..."
gorgeous...motivating....that segment competes for my favorite fiona lines...
~KraZy
gorgeous and motivating indeed.
funny, i came to leave a comment on that exact portion of the lyrics. krazy, youve nailed it, and i agree, this competes for my favorite fiona lyrics as well. i love her writing. even when youre just reading the words aloud they still have such a great sound.
i am likely to miss the main event if i stop to cry or complain again so i will keep a deliberate pace let the damn breeze dry my face
also my favorite part of the song, and i think it means about the same as what KraZySwiMma7 said, except i felt it on a broader spectrum. it's like, if you sit around being a crying, whiny bitch about stuff, you'll miss out on everything good. so put up with yourself for awhile, and maybe eventually you'll turn out a "better version" of yourself.
this song speaks right to me, i always feel the need to reinvent myself and be better because often times i bitch about everything and take the good stuff for granted.
I think it's about moving on and making a fresh start. Another lovely, positive, defiant song from Fiona.
Free Fiona. Alas we wait for Extraordinary Machine...new album due out...god knows when. Any how awesome song, she calls out alot of her neuroses in this song. It's all about getting over yourself and sucking it up because when you suck it up it's better for you and everyone around you.
Damn Sony execs...can't they get it through their thick skulls that we actually want to hear good music?!?
I really actually like this song! The music kinda reminds me of the music they play on the Wizard of Oz- the Wicked Witch of the west...lol
