Phone Call Lyrics

I've seen you awhile now
Long enough to be close
There's some things about you
That I should know I still don't

With all of the questions we didn't ask
Our conversations could never last
Our moments alone were scarce and few
It was just easier to hide the truth

If all of our secrets were exposed
Would we be sharing the same bed?
How 'bout if I broke the silence first
Could I hear what you're thinking in your head?

I need to be talked to, I need to be touched
I need you to hold me, I need to feel loved
And if I could open up to you
Maybe I could open you up

But instead I've got the phone call
Just thought I'd call to let you know
I want to be alone all night again
Phone call, just thought I call to let you know
I want to be alone all night again

With all of the questions we didn't ask
Our conversations could never last
I need to be talked to, I need to be touched
I need you to hold me, I need to feel loved

And if I could open up to you
Maybe you could open up to me
Endure the things that lovers do
I've been meaning to tell you how I feel

But instead I've got the phone call
Just thought I'd call to let you know
I want to be alone all night again
Phone call, just thought I'd call to let you know
I want to be alone all night again

This song accurately describes how I felt a month ago. I had a girl that I really liked, we talked on the phone and hung out at school almost everyday. But then Summer came and she had to go away and we grew farther and farther apart. Maybe if I had told her how I felt or asked her how she felt we could be going out right now. Maybe it's not too late? I don't think I will ever know.

This song is..wow..is when a relationship is dying and falling extremely fast. No one talks and no one tells...

"And if I could open up to you Maybe I could open you up"

Am I the only one who thinks that is a double entendre, where it is both mentally opening her up, and physically, as in sex? Just thought I'd add that in.

"Maybe I could open you up" -- definitely means sex. Later he changes it to "maybe you could open up to me" which is the emotional/mental part of a relationship. She is scared to open up to him (perhaps she knows that the first part of his attraction to her is physical and not emotional, so she tells him that she wants to be alone). He was scared as well, which is why it was easier to hide the truth. And now he's realizing that he won't be able to get her at all, physically or emotionally.

But the main thing I wanted to comment is that while I don't know much about music, whatever it is, guitar I guess, sounds like moaning, which also adds to the fact that he wants to be "sharing the same bed."

This song, then, is about the gulf separating two people when they only connect physically ("we do all the things that lovers do").
