Jackie left on a cold, dark night
Telling me he'd be home
Sailed the seas for a hundred years
And left me all alone
Now I've been dead for twenty years
I've been washing the sand with my ghostly tears
Searching the shores for my Jackie-oh
And I remember the day that the young man came
Said, your Jackie's gone, he is lost in the rain
And I ran to the beach
And laid me down
You're all wrong, I said
And they stared to the sand
That man knows the sea like the back of his hand
He'll be back some time
Laughing at you
And I've been waiting all this time
For my man to come, take his hand in mine
And lead me away
To unseen shores
I've been washing the sand with my salty tears
Searching the shore these long years
And I'll walk the sea forever more
'til I find my Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh
Telling me he'd be home
Sailed the seas for a hundred years
And left me all alone
I've been washing the sand with my ghostly tears
Searching the shores for my Jackie-oh
Said, your Jackie's gone, he is lost in the rain
And I ran to the beach
And laid me down
And they stared to the sand
That man knows the sea like the back of his hand
He'll be back some time
Laughing at you
For my man to come, take his hand in mine
And lead me away
To unseen shores
Searching the shore these long years
And I'll walk the sea forever more
'til I find my Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh
Jackie-oh

This song basically, This guy Jackie went out on a boat and doesnt return, leaving behind his lover, who retells what happened when the guy came to tell about what had happened. Now at the end i get confussed, i think the lover walks out into sea to be with jackie and dies, alothough im not sure.
it's actually a Sinead O'Connor cover
^ What a fantastic cover it was.
this is an amazing song!!!
the lyrics are so haunting.
i think, in the end it's.. well... like the girl walks along the bayside every day... like to "find" her lover, who never came back.
i think it might be about this girl who died waiting on her lover to return from being out at sea, he died out there and she still waits for him to come and take her away to heaven i suppose :S idk if thats right just a guess coz it says:
now i've been dead for twenty years. i suppose that could be metaphorical meaning his absence has left her kind of dead inside for twenty years while she refused to believe that he wasnt coming back.
well, it`s pretty clear that the song is about a girl waiting 'for her man' and the pain she was put through because of his loss. but I think that the sea thing could mean something else too : And lead me away To unseen shores The lyrics manage to give a very powerful feeling of love and devotion, in the Placebo distinctive way xD "And I'll walk the sea forever more 'til I find my Jackie-oh "... beautiful/sad song..
This is the single most beautiful thing I have heard in my entire life.
though I know it probably has nothing to do with what it really means, this song reminds me of The Odyssey.
I believe a female voice will suit more with the meaning!
