Carry Me Down Lyrics

Slipping through the sand and the sand through your fingertips
Silence was the fear and the fear knew me all too well
Waiting at the edge of the sea
Gazing at horizons quite naturally

There's something in the air but I know it can't carry me
You know I won't believe you
You know I won't believe in time for now
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down

The grains of sand which grace the land, warm against the sun
The calming sea holds mystery
Pushing down and down
Riding with the tide
The sun it leads me

There's something in the air but I know it can't carry me
You know I won't believe you
You know I won't believe in time for now
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down

Carry me down
Carry me down

Questions left unsaid but instead turn their backs on me
Silence was the key and the sea learned its lesson well
Waiting on the edge of time
The world is on my doorstep

There's something in the air but I know it can't carry me
You know I won't believe you
You know I won't believe in time for now
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
There's something in the air but I know it can't carry me
You know I won't believe you
You know I won't believe in time for now
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down

There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
(You know I can't I won't I can't I won't)
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
(You know I can't believe it)
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
(You know I can't I won't I can't I won't)
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
(You know I can't believe it)
There's something in the air but I know it won't carry me down
(You know I can't I won't I can't I won't)

I think this is an amazing album from beginning to end. It's almost a link between prog rock and new wave. I'd be curious to know what their influences were when they made this album.

The song could be interpreted many ways. It could be about overcoming dealing with the unseen force called narcissistic personality disorder. If one or both of your parents was narcissistic. A sibling grandparent Uncle cousin former friend, your boss,

But I think it has to do with overcoming a problem and being your natural self finding a natural solution.

What if you could go back in time and talk to your 18-year-old son self. Explain the challenges of life and how to overcome them. If you had really bad parents you could relate to the lyrics in this song.

It could also mean dealing with death. This song would be about your final words to the world.

This song to me has always struck me as a battle against drugs, overcoming and surmounting it. "There's something in the air but I know IT CAN'T CARRY ME; means the addiction to cocain, the high and the rush, but the realization that the high won't take him through life and that it will crash against the shore like all great 'wave rides' do. Interesting enough, the song uses the concept of a beach and waves. The problems grow as he's ready to have opportunity (The world is on my door step). He gets help and wins the battle..."There's something in the air but I know it WON'T carry me down" If not drugs, then good vs evil or both. This is such a GREAT and under rated song.
