First of all, I really loved to read all your interpretations, they're all so good!! . To me, this song it's about an inside dialog of someone to itself. It's about someone who has decided to change and go alone, based on terrible experiences in life. She kind of feels that her decision might be wrong but is also afraid of being exposed, so she closed herself and go by with this new self that she actually doesn't like, feeling that she doesn't recognize herself anymore. She knows there is another way to go through life, more painful but better way at the end , but she doesn't want to accept it and refuses to see the truth and open her eyes. At the end, she doesn't want to open herself to something that could change her life and set her free.

I love keane...I introduced this album to my girl/soon to be wife and it just took us to another level.....i feel this song is about realization....its about a relationship thats gone astray as a result of his love's mentality changing...she becomes cold and unaffectionate and doesnt want him for the right reasons...she realizes for a brief second but she doesnt change....and this is his plea to her to change

I relate to this song... I think it's about a friend who TOTALLY changed and that friend has started to ignore you and think that she is better than everyone. It's basically saying I don't know you anymore and I don't want to know you... and when your eyes finally open you'll see everything that you lost by acting that way, you'll realize.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I see this as a guy who's always liked this girl but never really knew her, he just kinda liked her from afar. And she's never noticed him because she's had her own relationship issues to deal with or she's just not into him. And then they sleep together and the next morning she regrets it. So when she opens her eyes she realizes how much he really cares for her and he wants to hate her now because it was just a one night stand, but when her eyes open, he realizes he still wants her.
Keane have a lot of songs like this, eg everybody's changing, bedshaped, walnut tree etc about a friend forgetting about them/leaving them.
Neonbliss has pretty much the same opinion I do. I think this song is about a girl who's been through a lot, and this guy likes her, and he's done something to hurt her. But he wants her eyes to open so she can understand all the things he feels in his heart about her, so that she'll want to know him. And although they don't know one another well, he wants her to know how he feels or else "morning" will come and she'll not want to know him anymore because he hurt her.
At first I thought this was about a one night stand. After reading all your comments it makes more sense that this has the same meaning as the other songs ex. "Everybody's Changing." It sounds like he tried to tell his friend or let them know that he/she has changed and his thought ends up hurting the friend. They finally realize they don't want to know eachother since they're both so hurt by the other. "I don't know you and I don't want to," is a statement of his pride I think. He's to proud to be trying to reconnect ties with his friend. It all very sad I've had too much experience with these sorts of friendships and I can absolutely relate. Brilliant song.
to me it's about a girl that has changed and has choosed to go her own way and is treating this person differently. just for an instant she realizes what she is doing, she gets it, but still doesn't react and continues being eyeclosed. the other person also knows about this and doesn't want to be with her until she opens her eyes.
