And Then You Kissed Me Lyrics
man, i've had a few
but they wouldn't quite blow me like you
you gave me your name and signed
with a halo around my eye
and it hits me like never before
that love is a powerful force
yes it struck me that love is a sport
so i pushed you a little bit more
love you're news to me
you're a little bit more that i thought you'd be
a mole in my well-fed lawn
you're a nightmare beating the dawn
oh it hit me like never before
that love is a powerful force
yes it struck me that love is a sport
so i pushed you a little bit more
blue, blue, black and blue
red blood sticks like glue
true love is cruel love
red blood's a power fuel
sweet love, tasty blood
my heart overfloods
oh you hit me
yeah, you hit me really hard
man you hit me
yeah, you hit me right in the heart
lord i've had my deal
but i never quite knew how it feels
when love makes you wake up sore
with fists that are ready for more
and it hits me that love is a game
like in war, no one can be blamed
yes it struck me that love is a sport
so i pushed you a little bit more
oh, blue, blue, black and blue
red blood sticks like glue
true love is cruel love
red blood's a power fuel
sweet love, tasty blood
my heart overfloods
man, you hit me
yeah, you hit me really hard
baby, you hit me
yeah, you punched me right in the heart
and then you kissed me
and then you hit me
and then you kissed me
and then you hit me
oh you haunt me with your violent heartbeat at night
oh you strike me with your silence baby tonight
oh you haunt me with your violence baby
come hit me
you haunt me with your violent heartbeat
but they wouldn't quite blow me like you
you gave me your name and signed
with a halo around my eye

No, this song isn't just about domestic violence. Notice she says "Love was a sport", she's saying she played with his feelings until he was hurt by her "pushing him" until he finally hit her. She hurt and from that, she realized love is a powerful force. She was hurt emotionally as well as physically because she then realized what she had done, although she was hit from it to get her to wake up to not purposely play love as a game. She might have never had one good relationship until that one, so she thought of him as just another prick so she angered him and then realized he was serious when he cared for her. She might have been teasing him and then when was hit then said "then you hit me really hard"-also internally realizing he was serious, but she failed to see it.
spot on.
spot on.
i think everyone is kind of hitting on what it means. i think for a while there she's talking directly to love and telling it what a bitch and gift it is. "you hit me really hard" she's speaking to love here. love can be really violent. but in a good way. the term punch drunk love comes to mind when i hear this song. beautiful lyrics beautiful voice.
I think the lyrics in this song are beautiful. I don't think the song is describing physical violence. i think it is a metaphor for the pain love can cause- "you hit me right in the heart". The way in which 'love' is personified, makes the song even more chilling- "cruel love", "sweet love". One of my favourite songs.
i think it is about domestic violence, that's what i thought when i first listened to it, but i think you can totally apply it to a hard, hurting, gut-wrenching love/relationship. it can be a metaphor for someone who is 'hitting you right in the heart' with their lack of respect, lack of concern, lack of care for you or your feelings. because sometimes that can hurt just as bad if not more so than the physical abuse.
i definately thinks she likes it, she's says "and it hits me like never before that love is a powerful force" she thinks she realizes what love really is, that violence and cruelty. i think she misunderstands the concept of love because of this new love that hit her hard, and its sort of brainwashing her. the entire song lead up to "and then you kissed me" which it seems like what she was waiting for, she went through the abuse to be kissed, but then she's just hit again.
Looking glass eyes, my highschool is doing "a streetcar named desire" for a play this year! haha!
To me it means loving someone deeply and truly. But you are not allowed because you and the other person are already in a different relationship. And you are too scared to leave your partner and the one you love is not persistent enough because he is too scared too. This is what it means to me at least....
At first i thought this song was about being in a relationship where he/she is more in love than the other person and continually pushes them to be more a part of the relationship until the other person feels the same.
After reading this though the idea that it is about an abusive relationship makes sense, and the part where she sings 'and then you kissed me' is symbolising the way a person is tricked into staying in the relationship by the abusers 'love' and 'remorse.'
I don't agree with the theory of domestic violence.
I think the song talks about a first kiss that hits her "like never before", because she's in love for the first time.
The chours describes that moment. "So i pushed you a little bit more" refers to lips in the moment of the kiss.
But he rejects her so in that sense it's a "creul love" and his lack strikes her("you stike me with your silence baby tonight").
I think it's about a new love, or a new love to someone who has never felt love for another.
Well, i think it's about getting married or something..."you gave me your name and signed"
I disagree; the lover in the song 'signs' "with a halo around my eye" - like a bruise from a punch. It's about leaving a mark.
