Nothing Lasts Forever Lyrics
I want it now I want it now
Not the promises of what tomorrow brings
I need to live in dreams today
I'm tired of the song that sorrow sings
And I want more than I can get
Just trying to trying to trying to forget
I'd walk to you through rings of fire
And never let you know the way I feel
Under skin is where I hide
Love that always gets me on my knees
And I want more than I can get
just trying to trying to trying to forget
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
I want it now I want it now
Don't tell me that my ship is coming in
Nothing comes to those who wait
Time's running out the door you're running in
So I want more than I can get
Just trying to trying to trying to forget
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
Not the promises of what tomorrow brings
I need to live in dreams today
I'm tired of the song that sorrow sings
Just trying to trying to trying to forget
And never let you know the way I feel
Under skin is where I hide
Love that always gets me on my knees
just trying to trying to trying to forget
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Don't tell me that my ship is coming in
Nothing comes to those who wait
Time's running out the door you're running in
Just trying to trying to trying to forget
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you
All the shadows and the pain are coming to you

Muzzy, your so right!.I love the bunnymen (and still miss petes drumming)but there is always something dark/brooding/haunting about their stuff; particularly the heaven up/ ocean period.
This song is about shows an unhealed betrayal wound poisoning the singer\'s life and relationships. The experience was so acutely painful and shockingly unexpected that the singer rationalizes that "Nothing Lasts Forever" as a coping mechanism in order to avoid forgetting the actual event/significance. \n\nThe first stanza they meet someone but they unhealthily idealize the other person and relationship immediately. They "need to live in dreams today" because they have lived their life pathologically avoiding love/intimacy and thus to "change" they do the (bi)polar opposite and idealize them like a fairytale. \n\n \n"And I want more than I can get"... in other words, they will leave me and I\'ll never see it coming/be ready. So like clockwork they dissociate and "forget" this time "successfully":\n\nThey self-sacrifice in "love" to the point of anonynmity. They "hide" the fact that they carry a sense of worthlessness, living in fear that they will betray themselves... but of course they lash out in insecurity and are always "on their knees" apologizing and agonizing despair at awareness with lack of faith/guidance. Speaking of which, the chorus:\n\nThis time they can\'t forget that "Nothing ever lasts forever", which could represent a significant period of regression or depression into self-abandonment ("why bother?"). \n\nIf this is a relationship, then this verse is the last chance. Frustrated, their beloved repays them with less-clear communication.. but more likely it\'s very clear but the singer can\'t see through their blinders. They even see them "running in" toward them but still feel like the rug will still be pulled out from under them. \n\nChorus comes again and they dissociate, letting the beloved down and prompting the end of the relationship as he knew it. This time he is alone and unable to deny the reality of the situation, their feelings and what they did. Everything \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI want it now, I want it now\nDon\'t tell me that my ship is coming in\nNothing comes to those who wait\nTime\'s running out the door you\'re running in
I want it now I want it now Not the promises of what tomorrow brings I need to live in dreams today
that's a good way to live life i would think. and nothing lasts forever, i think we have all figured that out. so lets live for the moment, eh?
"I'd walk to you through rings of fire And never let you know the way I feel "
Two of the most perfect lines I've ever heard in a song. Sums up unrequited love better than anything.
this song is amazing, it's been one of my favorites for years now... one of my many themes!
to me, it's about wanting to seize the day, take chances, live life like it's your last day in it... yet being surrounded by people who are always saying "maybe someday."
"don't tell me that my ship is coming in nothing comes to those who wait time's running out the door you're running in,"
my favorite lines from this song, which sum up how I feel about life. patience is a virtue, I am so damn patient over everything, but sometimes I wish i didn't have to be, because while I'm being patient, chances are flying by.
so many people want to put everything off until some day way off in the future...they're always saying "let's wait until later." me, though...I'm well aware of the fact that when I die, it's game over. I'm also aware of the fact I could die any day, any time... so "later" isn't something I say. if I want to do or say something, I'll do my best to accomplish it at the time, because "later" may never come.
a seize the moment and live now song, but tinged with sadness that in fact life never really delivers what is in our dreams. an array a great lyrics and a wonderful tune. One of Ian's beter songs from his later period.
It's a wonderful song! It's like everyone says; That life never turns out exactly the way you want/dream it to do, just seize the moment and don't think ahead, or back, at what could have happened or can!
This song is very Beatles-esque, and the lyrics are amazing. I swear every Echo and the Bunnymen song, no matter how happy it sounds, has a dark undertone to it, either in the lyrics or the music itself.
This song was played during my first dance at my wedding. I'm divorced now.
This song shows an unhealed abandonment wound poisoning the singer\\'s life and relationships. A common one is growing up receiving a lot of abuse/neglect from family. The experience was so acutely painful and shockingly unexpected that the singer rationalized that "Nothing Lasts Forever" as a simple fact rather than being able to understand they were victimized (which a parent who is consistently abusive would deny/gaslight to no end).\n\n-\n\n The first stanza they meet someone but they unhealthily idealize the other person and relationship immediately. They "need to live in dreams today" because they have lived their life largely avoiding intimacy, and thus to "change" they do the (bi)polar opposite and idealize "the relationship" like a fairytale. \n-\n\n"And I want more than I can get"... in other words, they will leave me and I\'ll probably never recover. So like clockwork they dissociate from the pain of this uncomfortable "truth". Notably they "forget" succesfully by "performing" but it\'s all fueled by feelings of inadequacy.\n-\nThey self-sacrifice in "love" to th e point of anonynmity. They "hide" the fact that they carry a sense of worthlessness, living in fear that they will betray themselves... but of course they lash out in insecurity and are always "on their knees" apologizing and agonizing despair at awareness with lack of faith/guidance. Speaking of which, the chorus: This time they can\'t forget that "Nothing ever lasts forever", which could represent a significant period of regression or depression into self-abandonment ("why bother?").\n-\nIf this is a relationship, then this verse is the last chance. Frustrated, their beloved repays them with less-clear communication.. but more likely it\'s very clear but the singer can\'t see through his own blinders. They even see them "running in" toward them but still feel like the rug will still be pulled out from under them. \n-\nChorus comes again and they dissociate, letting the beloved down and prompting the end of the relationship as he knew it.. The singer has a chance to face his demons, likely regretting having avoided his issues instead of facing them.
