Can You Picture That? (The Electric Mayhem) Lyrics

Dr. Teeth:
Ohhh yeah! Whooo!
Everybody's lover, everybody's brother, I wanna be your lifetime friend.
Crazy as a rocket, nothin in my pocket, I keep it at the rainbow's end.
I never think of money, I think of milk 'n honey, grinnin like a cheshire cat.
I focus on the pleasure, somethin' I can treasure, can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

Hey Floyd, take a verse!

Floyd:
Let me take your picture, add it to the mixture, there it is I got you now!
Really nothin' to it, anyone can do it, it's easy and we all know how.
Now begins the changin', mental rearrangin', nothing's really where it's at,

Dr. Teeth:
Now the Eiffel Tower's holdin up a flower.
I gave it to a Texas cat!

Floyd:
Fact is there's nothin out there you can't do
Yeah, even Santa Claus believes in you

Dr. Teeth:
Beat down the walls, begin, believe, behold, begat.

Floyd:
Be a better drummer, be an up and comer. Can you picture that?

Animal:
CAN YOU PICTURE THAT?!?!

Floyd:
All of us are winnin, pickin and a-grinnin, Lordy but I love to jam

Janice:
Jelly-belly gigglin, dancin and a-wigglin, honey that's the way I am!

Dr. Teeth:
Lost my heart in Texas, Northern lights affect us, I keep it underneath my hat,
Aurora Borealis, shinin down on Dallas! Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

All:
Can you picture? You gotta see it in your mind!
Can you picture? You know it's quick and easy to find!
Can you picture? You don't have to buy a frame!
Can you picture? Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?

Dr. Teeth:
Use it if you need it

Floyd:
Don't forget to feed it!

All:
Can you picture that?

MY INTERPRETATION:

The fun of it is that the lyrics have a far out FEEL to them, but are in fact telling a part of the same story all the best children's stories tell: How Magic is Life, Man?!?

I have laughed, sung, loved, cried and then laughed myself silly listening from childhood (born in '75 - this was MY generation, Muppet Show every sat night i jammed with my dad at 4 and 5 years old) to college and beyond. This year, grieving him, I watched the motion picture in a theater for the second time (too little to remember the first very well, but the soundtrack was in heavy rotation our record player for 15 years), I keep loving the whole album. This song does particulalry jam, though. I put it on my most beloved mix played at all the Peeps O' Kenyon sunsets, between Little Green Bag and Peace Frog.

I love it at 49 y/o because it CAN appeal to anyone. Pot culture was, for me (and in my largely priviliged early life) fundamentally about letting go and becoming your inner child. Seeing the silly and beautiful in everyday things. SO, while I can easily imagine the hallucinatory moments of the 60's and 70's when Jim (and company, esp Frank) were creating the Muppets with his/their spark being involved somehow, I can just as easily say that none of the stuff in these lyrics requires any substances for people who are transcendentally creative. I'm both. I loved me a little herbal inspo in my time, and I would NEVER presume to be talented in the way I express my creativity - nor at all prolific which may be the whole key - but those who really get "it" get it anyway. Those were the words ppl actually used back then, whether their drug of choice was pot, coke, alcohol, Jesus, or any combo thereof.

[Edit: Fixing, then making more grammatical errors. You're welcome!]

I've always loved this song and the scene where they're disguising the car.

there is a lot of crafty and possible drug referances in this song. Really nothin' to it, anyone can do it, it's easy and we all know how. Now begins the changin', mental rearrangin', nothing's really where it's at,

obviously smoking a spliff.

Lost my heart in Texas, Northern lights affect us, I keep it underneath my hat,

northern lights being a type of weed and i know alot of people who wide weed in their hats.

All of us are winnin, pickin and a-grinnin Jelly-belly gigglin, dancin and a-wigglin, honey that's the way I am!

shroom picking, and shrooms make yer gut upset sometimes. there are other things in the song that give me the impression of ganj, but theyre a bit far fetched
