Where Have All the Good Times Gone? Lyrics
Well, lived my life and never stopped to worry 'bout a thing
Opened up and shouted out and never tried to sing
Wondering if I'd done wrong
Will this depression last for long?
Won't you tell me
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Well, once we had an easy ride and always felt the same
Time was on our side and I had everything to gain
Let it be like yesterday
Please let me have happy days
Won't you tell me
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Ma and Pa look back at all the things they used to do
Didn't have no money and they always told the truth
Daddy didn't have no toys
And mummy didn't need no boys
Won't you tell me
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Well, yesterday was such an easy game for you to play
But let's face it things are so much easier today
Guess you need some bringing down
And get your feet back on the ground
Won't you tell me
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Opened up and shouted out and never tried to sing
Wondering if I'd done wrong
Will this depression last for long?
Where have all the good times gone?
Where have all the good times gone?
Time was on our side and I had everything to gain
Let it be like yesterday
Please let me have happy days
Where have all the good times gone?

It’s about the illusion that things were better, “back in the day”.
always thought it was the early effects of fame and all the trappings that come with it that he was singing about...ie when they were a young band just starting out, things were easier, once fame, money etc rolled in things become difficult and fractured. and when you consider the internal dynamics of the kinks it makes it more understandable...those guys were at each others throats for a long time.
Whether its about depression, or the early effects of fame, the lyrics are simply about something happening in this persons life, and now they miss the good times in their life.
@comedancing Agreed, until you reach the final two paragraphs of the shown lyrics which I think is a parent's reply saying you may miss the good old days but life is easier today, just get your feet back on the ground and stop living such a complicated life for some of what you miss you could still have if you made the necessary changes to get them.

I think this is about having depression. It's about wishing your life would be like it was before getting depressed, and wanting to be happy and able to enjoy life again.
