Long Black Train Lyrics

There's a long black train
Coming down the line
Feeding off the souls that are lost and crying
Tails of sin only evil remains
Watch out brother for that long Black Train

Look to the heavens
You can look to the skies
You can find redemption
staring back into your eyes
There is protection and there is
peace the same burn in your ticket for that
Long Black Train

'cause there's victory in the lord i say
Victory in the lord
Cling to the father and his holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

There's an engineer on that long black train
making you wonder if your ride is worth the pain
He's just a waitin on your heart to say
let me ride on that long black train

but you know there's victory in The Lord I say
victory in The Lord
Cling to the father and His holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

Well I can hear the whistle from a mile away
it sounds so good
but I must stay away
that train is a beauty making everybody stare
but its only destination is the middle of nowhere

But you know theres victory in The Lord I say
victory in The Lord
Cling to the father and His holy name
and dont go riding on that long Black Train

I said cling to the father and His holy name and don't go ridin on that black train
yes watch out brother for that long black train
the devil's a ridin that long black train.

long black train = fun filled life but unholly life. its final stop = hell. Thr rails the train rides on = Sin. the engener in it = devil. your tiket burning = you being saved. saying let me ride on it = giveing in to sin. GOOD song!

The song is actually quite simple and beautiful (entirely true as well). The "long black train" is symbolism for the path to Hell. Josh sings about looking to the heavens for redemption and avoiding the long black train.

As long as you cling to and trust in God, you will be saved.

The engineer as said in this song is Satan. He tempts, lies and cheats to coax you onto a path of sin and deciet--again, that long black train :)

Bottom line, it's a song about keeping faith, being strong, trusting in the Lord and resisting temptation to do wrong.

:)

Yeah, the message is about not doing anything sinful and to trust in God. Even as a person who hates God, I love this song.

No one can dispute the religious nature of this song...that's def. one meaning. If you listen closely, I think you can get a second meaning out of the song of drug addiction. The long black train and the devil are a person being addicted to alcohol and/or drugs.

"that train is a beauty making everybody stare but its only destination is the middle of nowhere"

^People who abuse alcohol and drugs often glamourise their use, and think they're not doing anything wrong, and that "everybody's doing it." When in fact, addiction to even the most mild substances such as caffeine, is a sad sad thing, and that destination of that Long Black Train is indeed the middle of nowhere

God helps those who help themselves
