Sucker Train Blues

Thanks Wings of a Wolf for some decent insight... This song is really interesting, and it's meaning is difficult to interpret. It reminds me alot of the Dean Koontz novel "Seize the Night". If you read this novel, you'd know what I mean. It's all about a parallel universe that's ruled by the devil, and many of the lyrics above are derived from this story. There's a scientific project gone awry called "Mystery Train" that sends people into the future. However, they don't really go into the future, they go into a parallel universe that is like Hell with a devil and "All the animals are dead". The people come back with worms coming out of their body, hence "somebody raped my tapeworm abortion". Also, the title "Sucker Train Blues" sounds like a reference to the "Mystery Train" project and the worms that take over, or the suckers. The worms are planted by the devil, who shoots the worm seed at you. The worms eventually take over your body, and come out your eyes "Yeah and when I want to Yeah I will blind you". Because of these similarities and the references to Armaggedon and the devil, I'm fairly sure this is about "Seize the Night". It's a very cool book, and this song fits it almost perfectly.

Okay, I decided that I definitely needed to comment on this song since no one used this as anything other than a "this song rocks" kind of post. That's great and all, but really.

With "come on motherfuckers and deliver the cow," you know the saying "well, don't have a cow?" He's saying just come on and get it over already.

This song is about someone's despair about themselves and how they don't believe that they can really be helped "don't look at me now, your wings won't hold." He believes that he is now "running with the devil" and that he can't be saved, even though he wants it.

I don't get the "Johnny" part, though.

Scott Weiland wrote the lyrics...what do you expect. Actually, this is a really good song but I've never quite gotten the part about motherfuckers delivering cows...?

Its about drug use, hands are shaking got your finger on the trigger is a syringe. When he wants to he will find you, drugs are everywhere. Brains are frying? Did you see the commercial about fried eggs/brains? Melting? Thats when the drug comes on and you melt away. Some of the lines may be based on other things but its def a drug reference

wow a couple of actual discussions about... the lyrics! That's a pretty cool comparison Kcobain. I've always wondered what the hell this song was about. Very strange but awesome lyrics. That's kind of Weilands thing, I've never really been able to find a real solid meaning in most of his lyrics as some of my other favorite singers. But they are always cool regardless.

I had always thought this song was about some sort of relation to religion in the current state of american culture and society and how weilands trials and tribulations fit into his view on them. They seem to describe a distorted view on the way religion is portrayed and how the people who are seen as angels or devils are often times not what they really are perceived to be. I think it also kind of describes how certain people have different perspectives on religion and who are really seen as good/evil in the world and how evil and corruption distorts what is actually good/evil and people religious views and affinities.

a way of saying that certain events in todays world are seen as 2 different things by groups of people. some might consider one event to be a coming of christ and other might consider it a very negative "alien infection" type of event.

"Brains are frying while the kings and queens are dying Satan won the race and the miracle mile"

basically stating that evil and corruption has won in the end, and our minds are warped because we are influenced from day one by all the bullshit of media/society etc.

"Don't look at me now Fell too fast your wings won't hold"

maybe telling a "holier than thou" type person that their self righteous nature won't save them when shit hits the fan.

anyways, thats my view on this one. I think this is one of VR's best songs really... it's like the perfect album intro tune.
