Unmade Bed Lyrics
Look who's come back home again
Loser looking for his lucky break
This time he says he just needs a friend
Ain't on the run he ain't on the take
Can you unlock the door babe
Will you undo the chain
Will you take yr time before you
Mix up love, his love and pain
Loneliness lays down his head
Wants to get you high, better take it now
A man like that's like an unmade bed
Stained eyes searching for another way out
Does it matter if you even want this
Maybe you just don't care
All I know it takes just one kiss, babe
For you - he's never there
Hey I know its kinda hard
And maybe this time it will never end
Hit and run lover back in yr heart
Answered prayers you should never have sent
Cuz now that yr in his arms babe
You know yr just in his way
Suckered by his fatal charm, oh girl
It's time we getaway
Loser looking for his lucky break
This time he says he just needs a friend
Ain't on the run he ain't on the take
Will you undo the chain
Will you take yr time before you
Mix up love, his love and pain
Wants to get you high, better take it now
A man like that's like an unmade bed
Stained eyes searching for another way out
Maybe you just don't care
All I know it takes just one kiss, babe
For you - he's never there
And maybe this time it will never end
Hit and run lover back in yr heart
Answered prayers you should never have sent
You know yr just in his way
Suckered by his fatal charm, oh girl
It's time we getaway

At face value, this song reflects a woman's (hinted by "babe" and "oh girl") recurring on-and-off relationship with a "loser" who has severed their relationship on at least one instance, hinted by the first line, "look whose come back home again".
Although it is not explicitly mentioned, one can infer from the somber tone of vocalist Thurston Moore that the content of the song is particularly unsettling. My hunch is that this is because the lyrics suggest that the "loser" does not concern himself with their relationship, and will unexpectedly call it off again sooner or later - which can be gathered from the last few lines "Cause now that you're in his arm babe, you know you're just in his way", as well as the earlier mention of him being a "hit-and-run lover". The woman seems to deserve a more committed partner.
this is the most amazing song ever i cant even explain it <3
This is a song about a girl that always takes back the same problematic guy when he comes back. The narrator is just watching it happen, and wishes that she wouldn't do it to herself.
you can see where they get their inspiration from Neil Young. Thurston sounds like him 100% on this track
this SONG is is is i could never explain
wow. this song is so amazing. i cannot even begin to articulate what it means or how i feel about it. it isn't just the lyrics, either. the instrumental accompaniment adds an entire other layer to the song. beautiful.
I love love love this frickin song. "Sonic Youth" and "Murray Street" were the 2 albums that got me into Sonic Youth, and I am so thankful I stumbled upon them. Thurston reminds me a lot of Stephen Malkmus, particularly in the way they sing...anyone agree?
stephen malkmus and thurston rule! thumbs up for tall, skinny, relaxed weirdo-pop singers with a blonde mop top :)
i just got this song the other day. it's so realistic, and makes me feel so sad. like i could become that man someday.
the most amazing thing is how well everything fits together, the music exactly describes the words, and the both seem to exactly describe the situation as it happens to you. i think these guys know what theyre doing!
probably one of my favorite Sonic Youth songs ever..
he's just trying to convince someone he cares about that the man she's always falling for is no good.
the instrumental breakdown of this song is completely amazing. it just captures the emotion so perfectly and blares out these melodic distorted guitars that sound so beautiful..
