Leaving Omaha Lyrics
Onstage at the Orpheum
Waiting for a diploma
Looking out at my classmates
Ready to disown them
My bags were packed
I was ready to leave
For university
I was moving up and out
Out of Omaha
Oh, it didn't last
One night I was drinking alone
So I drove out to Denver
To visit an old friend
Who had settled down there
I kept on driving all through the night
And threw up in dawn's early light
Sick on caffeine pills
My friend, he escaped from Omaha
Oh, I never will
Oh, I had a lover once
She was a nomad
Would have followed her anywhere
So we moved out to Portland
She was selling baggage
I bought all I could
And that was all it took
To make my escape
Oh, Omaha, oh, you never looked so good
I am leaving
I'm sailing away
My time in Iowa
Was just a holiday
I've got to get back over that bridge
To the town where I live
I guess that's where I'll stay
Oh, Omaha, oh, Omaha
Waiting for a diploma
Looking out at my classmates
Ready to disown them
My bags were packed
I was ready to leave
For university
I was moving up and out
Out of Omaha
Oh, it didn't last
So I drove out to Denver
To visit an old friend
Who had settled down there
I kept on driving all through the night
And threw up in dawn's early light
Sick on caffeine pills
My friend, he escaped from Omaha
Oh, I never will
She was a nomad
Would have followed her anywhere
So we moved out to Portland
She was selling baggage
I bought all I could
And that was all it took
To make my escape
Oh, Omaha, oh, you never looked so good
I'm sailing away
My time in Iowa
Was just a holiday
I've got to get back over that bridge
To the town where I live
I guess that's where I'll stay
Oh, Omaha, oh, Omaha

I'm pretty sure the lyrics are
"She was selling baggage, I bought all I could..."
Tim Kasher...he has enough baggage already without hers :o)
fixed, thanks
seriously, being the saddle creek whore i am,i want to go to nebraska and go to conor and tims old stomping grounds.
wow, that sounds both very pathetic and stalker like. I didnt mean it.I'm not quite that awful.
I wonder what high school Kasher graduated from, seeing as how I live in Omaha and the Orpheum is quite a classy and unusual venue for a graduation. It's a rather old but wonderfully preserved theater, it's beautiful. Most area high schools have graduation in the convention center.
Oh yeah - there are no Omaha stomping grounds :) Saddle Creek is a long street with a Target, gas stations and a couple fast food joints. Nothing special.
shieldyoureyes - i'm pretty sure kasher went to creighton prep, same as conor oberst.
This song is about how one simply cannot escape the pull of one's hometown, no matter how much one wants to get away. Tim tries to escape through college, a friend, and a lover, and each time he finds himself, defeated, drawn back to Omaha.
I live in Omaha, and it is nothing glamorous. Yes, they both went to Creighton Prep, my brother goes there. I go to the all girls Catholic school down the street. In fact I live about a block away from Saddle Creek Road. I also fear I will never get out of Omaha.
There is just something about omaha that makes it really hard to leave. i don't think i'm ever going to be able to, except for the time i spend in college.
It's too true, Omaha has all you need and it's hard to leave the city after a even a short occupancy.
