All Kinds Of Time Lyrics

The clock's running down
The team's losing ground
To the opposing defense
The young quarterback
Waits for the snap
When suddenly it all starts to make sense

He's got all kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time

He takes a step back
He's under attack
But he knows that no one can touch him now
He seems so at ease
A strange inner peace
Is all that he's feeling somehow

He's got all kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time
He's got all kinds of time
All kinds of time

He thinks of his mother
He thinks of his bride-to-be
He thinks of his father
His two younger brothers
Gathered around the widescreen TV

He looks to the left
He looks to the right
And there in a golden ray of light
Is his open man
Just as he planned
The whole world is his tonight

It really reminds of this part by The Perks of Being a Wallflower (I know it's long, but it fits perfectly):

My dad played college baseball for two years, but he had to stop when Mom got pregnant with my brother. That's when he started working at the office. I honestly don't know what my dad does. He tells a story sometimes. It is a great story. It has to do with the state championship for baseball when he was in high school. It was the bottom of the ninth inning, and there was a runner on first. There were two outs, and my dad's team was behind by one run. My dad was younger than most of the varsity team because he was only a sophomore, and I think the team thought he was going to blow the game. He had all this pressure on him. He was really nervous. And really scared. But after a few pitches, he said he started feeling "in the zone." When the pitcher wound up and threw the next ball, he knew exactly where that ball was going to be. He hit it harder than any other ball he ever hit in his whole life. And he made a home run, and his team won the state championship. The greatest thing about this story is that every time my dad tells it, it never changes. He's not one to exaggerate. I think about all this sometimes when I'm watching a football game with Patrick and Sam. I look at the field, and I think about the boy who just made the touchdown. I think that these are the glory days for that boy, and this moment will just be another story someday because all the people who make touchdowns and home runs will become somebody's dad. And when his children look at his yearbook photograph, they will think that their dad was rugged and handsome and looked a lot happier than they are.

if think you're full of shit and so does he. I dont know what it feels like to be that envious and jealous of someone. I'm glad I don't because it seems like it's killing you.

Not about this story necessarily, just in general.

This is not about me at all. It's just a quote from this book that I thought fitted the sound scenario really good. And if you read the book, you'll see he's not jealous of his dad or his glory days, if anything he's proud of him. He's just talking about how when you are seeing pictures of your parents, or anyone, when they were younger, they always seem so happy and like they're having the time of their life, when in reality you hardly ever think like that when you are living some situation and imagine that those are the...

I agree with forest. it's about a football player but could really be about anyone. I had this feeling on vacation this summer. a bunch of my friends were just sitting around by the campfire talking and making smores, and the moon reflected off the lake just right. it was like that's how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. that's what this song is about, being happy in a sort of pure way

i think this song is not linked to football at all, in fact, if anything, it shows the insignificance of it. everything begins to make sence to the boy- life that is. we've all had that defying moment, when we realize something.. something big. and with that moment comes a feeling, a 'strange inner peace'. he is is suddenly sees, life opens up. everything is at ease. hes got all kinds of time.

I think this song is a metaphore, comparing football to life. When I visualize the song, I see the quaterback, in his zone, doing what he loves, waiting for the ball, when suddenly-it just clicks for him. This one game they are losing is just one game. He will have a million more chances. All that matters is that he tries his best. So he starts going through the motions of playing football, but really he's thi8nking about his life and his future, with people he loves, revisiting memories and dreams. He is no longer worried about losing the game or screwing up, he's just okay with everything happening in the moment "a strange innner peace". The whole thing with the open man is that he knows there will always be special people in his life to be there when he needs them. And that he does win the game in the end is like saying that as long as he lives in the moment, he will be sucessful.

This song is about youth and growing older. "All kinds of time" is obviously a double meaning. The QB feels young, strong, invincible, immortal. His whole life of possibilities lay out before him.

It seems to me a sad and wistful song. Perhaps it's being sung by an older person who is watching the QB and thinking back to when he was young, his whole life was ahead of him, and he still had "all kinds of time".

Taken literally, it's a song about a quarterback in a football game, getting the ball hiked to him, looking around, and seeing the open man to pass the ball to.

But if you don't pay attention to the words, it sounds like a soul-fulfilling power ballad.

Great tune, either way.

Appropriately, it's now being used in an NFL commercial.

bw10185, it sounds almost like Vindicated by Dashboard Confessionals. I thought of the exact same thing, but then i went and looked at Vindicated, and they are quite different. Their key is different, but the rhythm is also vaguely different, but it does sound the same.

I think its a great song (All kinds of time) and its one of my favorite ones, and has a place in all of the playlists that i make!
