The Leaves Are Gone Lyrics
The leaves are gone
There's ice on the river
Hold my hand to your heart and breathe
Together, we won't make a sound
As we part for the winter
Of my life
'Til it ends
'Til this stops, and then?
Love?
We'll see
While we're left to grieve
There's ice on the river
Hold my hand to your heart and breathe
Together, we won't make a sound
As we part for the winter
Of my life
'Til it ends
'Til this stops, and then?
Love?
We'll see
While we're left to grieve

There isn't much to explain about this song's lyrics, it's just a love song, but a fucking dreamy and breathtaking one. If you're into Radiohead, the Flaming Lips, Wilco, or any of those type of bands, I'd recommend the Secret Machines, and especially this song to you.
This song is fucking gorgeous.
this song's amazingly beautiful. i didn't even listen to the lyrics at first because the music was so gorgeous, but they make it even better.
It's a story about a soldier saying goodbye to his girlfriend/wife before going off to war. The Road Leads Where It's Led and First Wave Intact are also about war, and a good deal of the other songs could be taken from a similar point of view.
this song is majestic. that's all.
None of these songs are about war. They are simply personal songs about trying to make a living doing what they love and being experienced enough at doing it to know the pitfalls. There are references to war, but those are analogies to trying to make it in the music business.
This song, however, is simply asking "when we die, will our love continue to go on?"
