Stranger Inside Lyrics
This day could be the worst one yet
I just won't relax, I can't catch my breath
'Cause I'm sick and tired of "you'll be fine"
Well how do you know? Can you read minds?
So take while you can
So you can meet demands
My insanity is what you thrive on
So rip it from my soul
So everyone will know
In the end we were never friends
Have you ever felt lost inside
So unloved within
That you almost die?
Have you ever stepped out of the light
And realized there's a stranger inside?
Don't push your ignorance on me
I'm not unrehearsed to your jealousy
And I know you think I don't see the signs
Well how do you know, do I look blind?
So take it while you can
So you can meet demands
My breakdown is what you thrive on
So rip it from my soul
So everyone will know in the end
I'm the break you're the bend
Stranger inside...
I just won't relax, I can't catch my breath
'Cause I'm sick and tired of "you'll be fine"
Well how do you know? Can you read minds?
So you can meet demands
My insanity is what you thrive on
So everyone will know
In the end we were never friends
So unloved within
That you almost die?
And realized there's a stranger inside?
I'm not unrehearsed to your jealousy
And I know you think I don't see the signs
Well how do you know, do I look blind?
So you can meet demands
My breakdown is what you thrive on
So everyone will know in the end
I'm the break you're the bend

He is talking about being with someone for a long time and then finding out they aren't who they say they are.
This song is about fighting your own personal demon. I would say the demon is depression. "Cause I'm sick and tired of "you'll be fine" Well how do you know? Can you read minds?"
I fight this same demon, and have for most of my life.. the words make perfect sense.
Going to have to agree with SnuggleBunny on this one. Saying that a song like this is about "being yourself" is to reduce such a powerful song to a trivial cliché.

Feeling "so unloved within that you almost died" is a despair that I wish on no one, and it's extremely difficult to explain to even those that care enough to listen. this song is pretty pissed off. people will lye to you and tell you that things will be ok. for everyone who is happy... ther has to be a sad person
This has to be my favorite Shinedown song, for the stanza that says "Have you ever felt lost inside/So unloved within/That you almost die?". I believe the song's about the people who repress you, how difficult it is to believe you're a person too sometimes...
And I have to add that this song is BRILLIANT live (I just got home from my 3rd Shinedown concert =P)
This song kind of confused me.
Where it said "So unloved within", I thought it said "So in love with him"...
I only realized that the song is not about a guy just now, seeing the lyrics.
Sheesh.
I think everyone can relate to this quote..."Have you ever stepped out of the light and realized there's a stranger inside? " Sometimes you realize your not being you and it is just better to be yourself. A lot of people think the way other people want them to think. It is a good moral...think and like yourself not like someone else.
First off this song is awesome and its great to see a band go back to good old fashioned Rock. Now to me this song is about a guy and his girl. To me it sounds like a friend or someone close stole his girl from him. I dont know just my thouhgts. "So rip it from my soul. So everyone will know. In the end we were never friends.'' those lines seem to supports my thoughts...Also the this verse "Don't push your ignorance on me. I'm not unrehearsed to your jealousy. And I know you think I don't see the signs Well how do you know, do I look blind?" Could be talking about the friend and how he knows hi did this to him
Personally I think its something along the lines of going to a therapist, when they don't want to.
"So take while you can So you can meet demands My insanity is what you thrive on" That what there is pretty much what they do. They feed off of your 'insanity' taking more money from you, making you believe your problems are more then they are, giving you more meds and taking more money. paying their 'peers'
"So rip it from my soul So everyone will know in the end I'm the break you're the bend" They always try to be-friend you, But its just apart of their job, its their mask.
Thats my oppinion
Notice how NOBODY says anything bad about Shinedown... No one says they sold out, or they suck, or anything.
Truly one of the great bands of today, keep it going guys.
I think theres a deeper meaning to this song. Like he's feeling invaded by himself. Like he doesn't even know himself. The part where Brent sings "have you ever felt lost inside" he could be confused, or unaware of what path to take.
