this song kicks ass

This is my favourite stone sour song. As soon as i got this album this song just seemed to throw it's self at me. "I can't betray myself" - to me it seems that there is somethinhe did do this thing he would be betrg he wants to do. Or there is something he really believes in and wont let anything stand on the way of that, if he did he would be betraying himself and what he believes in. "I stand before you as a victim, as the system rots I couldn't focus, so I staggered when I heard the shots" Maybe he feels weak? as he is a victim. I think that the song is basicly about him having to choose between betraying himself and giving in. or standing up for himself.

To me this is about how people/the society ("All things considered, it was just our normal way of life") tries to make everybody to be this pathetic shell of a human that doesn't think for him-/her-self just follows the way you are supposed to be, instead of having your own soul.

And if you are yourself and express your opinions and feelings that doesn't match what the society expects you are judged and convicted as freak/weirdo/deviant. I'm guessing a lot of people (including Corey) liking this kind of music (especially slipknot and the likes) have experienced this first hand "Why do you listen to that shit" and so forth, they try to extinguish your soul ("Behind the door, you have two choices, but you don't get to choose, You can survive or you can die - either way you lose" to me is, you can sell your soul (die) or keep it and take the shit you'll get expressing it (survive, but you'll suffer, i.e. loose)).

Corey, professes that he can't betray himself, i.e. sell his soul, and will take the punishment for it. And asks the listener to choose sides.

people give me funny looks when this song comes on... cant help but go nuts.. just feel like hes saying to be who u are no matter the negativity around u. be true yourself.
