Dirt Lyrics

Ooh, I been dirt
And I don't care
Ooh, I been dirt
And I don't care
Cause I'm burning inside
I'm just a yearning inside
And I'm the fire o' life

Ooh, I've been hurt
And I don't care
Ooh, I've been hurt
And I don't care
Cause I'm burning inside
I'm just a dreaming this life
And do you feel it?
Said do you feel it when you touch me?
Said do you feel it when you touch me?
There's a fire
Well, it's a fire

It was just a burning
Yeah, alright
Ooh!
Burning inside
Burning
Just a dreaming
Just a dreaming
It was just a dreaming
It was just a dreaming

Play it for me, babe, with love!

Also says "cut me" instead of "touch me" on it a few times. One of the man's best songs. So harsh, yet really quite beautiful.

man the world is in a sorry state when a genius like iggy gets so few comments. Mr Pop is clearly the disinterested heir to the throne of the universe and this song ought to be his national (universal?) anthem! viva la Stooges!

this is one of my very favourite songs. I think hes talking about depression and his vulnerability, but also saying theres something strong that keeps him 'burning' through life for lack of a better term? I think he views himself as dangerous,

"I've been hurt And I don't care Cause I'm burning inside I'm just a dreaming this life And do you feel it? Said do you feel it when you touch me?"

I think maybe he feels a dark undercurrent to himself, most people do...theres some uncertainty and tension in this song. He is trying to reach out to someone yet feels apathy/fear/denial (like in the part he says "Im dreaming this life")

Thats what i take from it, but I usually discover new things to songs like this the more i listen...

After this song you could see Raw Power was on it's way.

One of the best songs ever written. I could gush about this shit for days. I love how Julian Cope said if he were stuck on a desert island, he could make an album consisting of just the demos of this track. If Iggy says he's just burnin', then ya best believe; it's a fire. Shit ain't no story. This song ain't about nuthin' more than a state o' mind, and it's just about the most powerful telling of said state. The only question here is: do ya feel it?

I have no insight or interpretation of this song to offer here, but I felt it necessary to say that this has been my Very Favorite Song in the world since I first heard it almost 30 years ago when I was 13. And I'm so glad to see a couple other people feel similarly.
