Testament to Youth in Verse Lyrics
Should you go looking
For a testament to youth in verse
Variations on the age-old curse
You blame the stations
When they play you like a fool
And like a fool you get played with
Baby, think twice
Maybe it's not all
Maybe it's not all right
Finally, a decent picture of the exodus
I don't know much
But other singers know less
And can we control ourselves for once?
Keep our hands off each other
Keep our minds on the sum
Keep our hands off each other
Keep our minds on the sum of each other
So, should you go looking
For a testament to youth in verse
Dedications to the same old curse
Don't blame the stations
When they play you like a fool
And like a fool you get played with
Baby, think twice
Maybe it's not all
Maybe it's not all right
Oh, my sweet witness
Can't you hear the voices?
They're telling the children to rock
For their choices, oh
The bells ring
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no . . .
For a testament to youth in verse
Variations on the age-old curse
You blame the stations
When they play you like a fool
And like a fool you get played with
Maybe it's not all

...good to know.
gotta love those bells.
Beautiful song. I love this line:
"finally a decent picture of the exodus"
Also, "they're telling the children to rock for their choices" reminds me of School of Rock for some reason.
Wow... just wow... I absolutely love this song.
It sounds like a song about growing up... In youth, it's pretty freaking easy to point the finger about the choices you make. At some point you have to take responsibility. I think that is the exodus he is referring to. At some point you have to grow up and listen to the bells say no no no...
I think it's about being young looking to music and not being able to find anything important. It may or may not be an attack on mainstream music and cliches.
I think the last stanza might be refering to rebellious songs like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Fight For Your Right (To Party)". That's what comes to mind.
I think it's talking about how shallowly love and relationships are depicted in pop music, and the problems that happen ("like a fool you get played with") when people take it seriously.
Also irrelevant but the end reminds me of the "never-ending ending" to "Hey Jude" ;)
Bob Dylan reference?
"baby, think twice maybe it's not all maybe it's not alright"
..."Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"
love the bob dylan reference and "they're telling the children to rock for their choices" i always thought was about mtv's rock the vote.
I'm pretty sure the correct lyric is "...I don't know much, BUT OTHER SINGERS KNOW LESS."

Maybe if we stop with all the sex and learn to say no we could actually get something productive done.
