This Charming Man (The Smiths cover) Lyrics
Punctured bicycle
On a hillside, desolate
Will Nature make a man of me yet?
When in this charming car
This charming man
Why ponder life's complexities
When the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?
I would go out tonight
But I haven't got a stitch to wear
This man said, "It's gruesome
That someone so handsome should care"
A jumped-up pantry boy
Who never knew his place
He said, "Return the rings"
He knows so much about
He knows so much about these things
And I would go out tonight
But I haven't got a stitch to wear
(Oh yeah)
This man said, "It's gruesome
That someone so handsome should care"
On a hillside, desolate
Will Nature make a man of me yet?
This charming man
When the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?
But I haven't got a stitch to wear
This man said, "It's gruesome
That someone so handsome should care"
Who never knew his place
He said, "Return the rings"
He knows so much about
He knows so much about these things
But I haven't got a stitch to wear
(Oh yeah)
This man said, "It's gruesome
That someone so handsome should care"

i hope everyone knows this is a cover of the smiths song. just noting, y'know.
is it ? uh well it's an awesome song anyway,.... but umm the man who sings the song is the lead singer of broken social scene right ?
I think Stars contain most musicians from the Arts & Crafts label.
i always liked the death cab cover of this song, but i think stars put a whole new twist on it. i really like it. =)
The female singer, Amy Millan, and the bassist, Evan Cranley are in Broken Social Scene. And this is a great cover. I didn't like Nightsongs when I first bought it about a year ago, same goes for Set Yourself on Fire. It was Heart or nothing for me, but now both of those albums have grown on me quite a bit.
You know, The Smiths version of this song will always be my favorite. Mostly because I adore The Smiths, and it recalls so much from my childhood. But for a cover, this is a lovely song.
Not bad as a cover, but I mean, The Smiths got it pretty awesome the first time around.
It' s a wonderful cover, and they modified it so it fits just right with the the rest of the album. wow.
So what is it /about?/
I love this song simply because it's sounds so relaxing yet it talks about a clash of lifestyles.
I assume the main protagonist is the handsome female. She lives a ordinary life whereas the Gentleman lives amongst the extraordinaire, as he comes from a wealthy background. Forget life's complexities (wealth, labor, education, etc) when you can enjoy yourself; presume she enjoys to be with the wealthy man. The observation over the pantry boy reveals the Gentleman's POV of status. He points out that the pantry boy steps out of place by somewhat scolding the couple regarding the rings. How does this relate to the female? She lives a similar life to that boy and can probably empathize but she disregards any of it as she currently is "living the lifestyle" so to speak, as she throws away the world's complexities; enjoy now, care later.
My interpretation.
