Pledging My Time Lyrics

Well, early in the mornin'
'Til late at night,
I got a poison headache,
But I feel all right.
I'm pledging my time to you,
Hopin' you'll come through, too.

Well, the hobo got too high;
He came to me natur'lly.
He stole my baby,
Then he wanted to steal me.
But I'm pledging my time to you,
Hopin' you'll come through, too.

Won't you come with me, baby?
I'll take you where you wanna go,
And if it don't work out,
You'll be the first to know.
I'm pledging my time to you,
Hopin' you'll come through, too.

Well, the room is so stuffy,
I can hardly breathe.
Ev'rybody's gone but me and you
And I can't be the last to leave.
I'm pledging my time to you,
Hopin' you'll come through, too.

Well, they sent for the ambulance
And one was sent.
Somebody got lucky,
But it was an accident.
Now, I'm pledging my time to you,
Hopin' you'll come through, too.

this song means...nothing, at least nothing profound...i relate to it, i think it's just about keeping ur foot in the door, waiting for a girl to come around...she doesn't, but u still keep ur foot in the door

I love that sort of metallic sound he gets with the harmonica at the end of the song.

It's that thin, wild mercury sound

Another great song. The hobo takes his best, it is him, he cannot avoid it! Pledges to her lady to come along with him and embark! He willll take her with him. Passions, aventures, living on the tight rope. Unavoidable, truesome. She'll know!

it think this one is about drugs as a form of escapism.

1st verse is a hangover.

2nd verse is a dealer.

3rd verse is the character introducing someone to whatever drug.

4th verse is the of them at the end of a night of heavy smoking.

the last verse is heroin overdose.

the whole time the character is 'pledging his time' to escapism through drugs.

I think this song is about drugs too, it makes alot more sense if it is though it could just as likely be a stream of consciousness recording

Sounds to me like it's about the harms of alcohol - 'poison headache' (hangover), 'everybody's gone but me and you' (all-night drinking), hobos are associated with alcoholism - maybe pissed his money away on booze. Sounds to me like the speaker escaped addiction and now he's trying to help a friend out of it
