I LOVE this song. Not to mention all Ladytron songs. But especially this one.
Yes, I am going to go with night instead of life, at least the second time around. It makes more sense and now that I listen closely to that part, I do think she is saying night. The first time is life.
She doesn't want to fight, she just wants to have sex, you know, a few minutes of his/her night and his/her life. No feelings involved. Or at least that is what she tells herself. When she is having sex, she feels totally in love with that person, at least for the 15 minutes or more the sex lasts.
She is trying to say she does not care that s/he does not care that she does not feel anything for him/her. Though she does. But still, she does not want to fight about it.
I thought this song is at least partially about a couple who've been together for too long and are starting to wear on each other; at least on-sidedly so. Now they are having just another breakfast, a part of a boring routine; and one of them doesn't feel anything about the relationship. (Perhaps that's where the refrain steps in? Was there ever love, even for 15 minutes?)
