Ol'e Nessie Lyrics

sanction lived in
taught by masters
flight of giving
be mine always
here for duration
miss my sweet love
times of sailing
keep me grounded
make us sure of future sanctions

Being restricted from, or by something, perhaps?

The title confuses the true meaning of the song. The lyrics themselves describe being separated from a loved one by some ulterior force. And then in a Mastodonic twist, physical imagery is added to give the lyrics a more metaphorical and symbolic feel. The lyrics of the song, when applied to the loch ness monster, creates a feeling of Nessie being trapped and separated from the other creatures of his kind, perhaps?

the only loved one in this song is the Ocean, its nessie who misses the Ocean.

I agree Ddadutta. But it almost seems in that last line like he's asking them to stay in touch and tell them of "future sanctions"

This song is simply about the myth of the Loch Ness monster. Why do people have to try and complicate stuff? Jesus!

its no myth, iv seen the sea beast myself, i used to live in the closest village to loch ness, and pass by the banks and the old ruins of glen urchurt castle day after day, it was on one of those days i saw the beast with my own two eyes. terrifying monster. no mercy in his eyes what so ever. he's a massive creature but also a master of hiding, he hides deep in the loch. he knows, when its safe to emerge, when no one is around, or when only one person is around for him to...

theres also a place on the outskirts of the village called the Secret Gardens, where there was two age old rocks with big iron chains attatched to them with rings at the ends, it was said that these were the chains of Dragons in the old days.

and those rocks remina there as far as i know to this day. you can go see them yourself.

There are a lot of contradictions in this song that I think are really clever.

"be mine always here for duration"

If you are away from someone, then you can never always be theirs.

"times of sailing keep me grounded"

If you are sailing, you aren't grounded, and if you are grounded then you can't sail.

To explain the lines

"times of sailing keep me grounded,'

In the age of sail, all sailors on a ship were usually male. This being kept in mind, this could be a love song, the 'times of sailing' prevent contact from a loved one, thus keeping the relationship 'grounded,' that is, unable to progress.
