A Key To Nothing

It seems like it's "more or less" about the nature of duality (opposites) and the idea of what we consider to be "right" and/or "wrong", which change depending on perspective.

"No more, no less" - If you have no more than 0 and no less than 0, then you only have 0, period. "No more speaking truth, no more deceit" - No more ideas of "right and wrong". "No more new world order, no more anarchy" - No more unity, no more separation.

You can't have one without the other. The solution: don't have either. Kind of the same principle seen throughout not only this song, but the entire album.

The song's intent seems to be more to provoke you to think about the idea of complete and utter, absolute-"nothingness".

Other than that, I love listening to it when the world seems to crap on me and I feel like I can't take anymore of people's bull shit.

The key to nothing could allude to the concept that to ascend to the highest of the high and become one with 'it/HIM', you must be able to give up EVERYTHING. All dualities, existence, life, memories, time is all based on the division of the whole into the first duality and from then on, the 10,000 things (all existence). In some spiritual practices, the aim is to reunite with the highest of the high and to do that you must reunite with the whole/One/God. In some beliefs, God is the absence of all dualities, timeless, omnipotent. So to cross the final bridge/void/branch/step you must be fully ready to give up who you are, existence, and all concepts of self to reunite. (more of a thought concept, not a cult/social concept).

The knowledge of the particular spiritual practice that achieves the aim, is the "Key to Nothing"

It's so simple. Chad thinks that the world is so fucked up that we need to destroy everyting and everyone and start all over again. This song is a continuation of the theme of this cd. It is not about the need for difference, but the destruction of those deferences that keep us apart.

One of the best Mudvayne songs I've ever heard, the sound is just amazing. Anyways, for the meaning, I see it as what's been previously stated, where our humanity is so screwed up, that we all need to be destroyed and start all over. With one specific lyric...

'i'm washing my hands, of everything... of everything we are'

Trying to wash away the disease that is known of humanity, of everything that makes us.

im not sure what this means but i think its talking about how everything is a seesaw, like if you got rid of sadness there would be no happiness cause u dont kno what happiness is like because you never experience anything different. so you either have all the bad crap in the world along with the good things or you dont have anything at all. So these things cancel each other out, you cannot have one without the other. Im not really sure what the part about murder is though...

ive just had a revelation. mabey the narrator has just done something horrible, like murder, and like i said up there, he is trying to make it more justifyable. hes thinking "if i dont do this i am unbalancing the equation, i need to be doing this."

Maybe its not suicide? Most of this CD seems to be about escaping this world due to the constraints life, peers, or an authority figure puts on us. Shadow of a man talks about stepping through to another plane, yet the song may come off about how people center their day about mirrors. Mercy, severity talks about saving someone if they leave it all behind, and a trip on the back of a star, also talks about how gravity is just here to hold us down. Skrying stating do you remember the bedroom, was it your cell or was it your tomb, meaning that children are trying to escape the pressures of life by retreating to their room, learning the secret knock or paying a nickel (little rascals reference?), to be able to enter their space. Silenced is focusing on one pressure of life, authority, and the different ways they can hurt you, mainly, silencing you. This brings me to one of my final points. What if it is just a list of things that would happen if we were to get away from this world? Think about it, hop on the back of a start and just go, there would be no more nothing.

The song is displaying the way the world is becoming. There really are no more politics, religion, freedoms etc, under the corporate system we are developing.

He isn't speaking through his mouth, rather, he is speaking through yours (the listener).

The lyrics speak through the listener's(your), basically saying that we all want the same damn things; equality, prosperity etc. But we are so willing to give up our moral values for these things. We are stuck within the constant confusion we see on TV. We glorify our stupidity, every day, in our entertainment. The global money system (corporations) have helped destroyed our ability for human emotions, and for empathy and nobility; which obliterates all sense of our purpose and unity. Hence...

"murder... murders in the hands... of motion... as it seems to be"

Duality is expressed perfectly in this rant. An impressive Mudvayne song. There is tons of wisdom to be found in Chads lyrics. He displays this type of art in all of his music:

The song is about the duality of our world and about how all this temporary rubbish feeding our Egos is just a distraction till we all eventually reach our inevitable death and become eternal. When close to death we focus on the Eternal rather than all the stuff on earth. Us Pisces want for nothing and many of us wish for death. Pisces = Death & Eternity. We're confused. We over think, we are the most emotional almost unstable at times, we analyse everything, we are the biggest hypocrites, we're pretty much someone born with bi polar without it being called bi polar, we can become drug addicts and can become very dark and suicidal. We are the dreamers. We spend 95 percent of our lives in our head.either thinking about a problem, a question or we day dream and can even become deluded. And all this thinking and over analysing and worrying eats away at us until we realise what we truly want is not in this world and Reality!!!! Snce this song is about Pisces I thought I'd give my take on a song technically about me.
